Many people look at us and think about how messed up we have to be, to like a “Gay” or a “Geeky” activity. They look at the guys and classify them, then they look at the girls and classify them. Just because we love what we do, does not mean we are any different than those who love sports. But in a way, we are different, and I am proud to be different from you.
We often think in very intricate ways. Our whole brain is dedicated to Theatre, and it often drives us crazy to see “Theater” in this case instead of “Theatre”. We don’t worry about memorizing formulas in math or science, or saying a speech in front of the class, because of what we do on stage. Theatre students often have more motivation and commitment, because of how driven we have become. Driven to do our best that is. We know how to manage our time, often because we are under so much pressure to get it done. We respect others more, and learn to be more open with the people around us. We create a bond with each other, that other students may never get to experience.
In retrospect, we use it as our release. It is a way to relax, to have fun, and to just let go. We recognize Beauty easier, we are more sensitive, we often contain more love in our hearts. There is more compassion, more gentleness, and definitely more LIFE.
Theatre is not something that you can just learn how to do. To be a theatre kid, you have to be more willing, and have more will power to succeed. Most students think that it is an easy A, and that they can take it for a fun elective. The last part is always correct, you should make it fun. But it is never EASY. Theatre is not about learning things, it’s about becoming. Becoming yourself, becoming your character, and becoming a better person over all.
