Christmas is approaching and while you may be wondering about what will be under the tree for you, many are neglecting the true meaning of Christmas. Many of you have already checked out because you think this is another article by someone who is trying to force you to believe what I do. This article isn't to offend anyone but rather offer a question that has become more present and common among churches, and those who believe in any form of Christianity.
So, what is the true meaning of Christmas? The presents under the tree? Giving the perfect gift and brightening a loved ones day? The decorations and baking? Or maybe it's a time to be thankful for God. Christmas by definition is the birth of Jesus and the day God sent his son to be brought into the world. Maybe instead of all the fancy gifts, we should spread the word of God and maybe even give to charity to help those who can't celebrate how most of us can.
"Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into the house; When you see the naked, to cover him; And not to hide yourself from your own flesh?" (Isaiah 58:7)
"For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited me in?" (Matthew 25:35)
The Bible tells us to open our house to others, the less fortunate, and welcome them in.
So do it.
Adopt a family on those Christmas trees at Sam's Club and Walmart. Volunteer at a shelter, prepare food or donate to a shelter. Talk to the homeless guy you pass by on your way to work and give him a jacket, food or money.
While doing this, don't take credit for it, don't brag on Facebook that you did this, for God even says not to. Do it and spread the unconditional love that Jesus has for all of us. Give hope for the hopeless with inspiring verses incorporated into talks. You don't have to go overboard, but remember how amazing it feels to know that you are forgiven for everything? To know you are loved? Give that to someone else too.
Go out of your comfort zone and do charity for Christmas.
