What Is A Gentleman?

Does a gentleman still exist? That is one of the main questions that we – as women – ask ourselves. Women would like for the certain man of their dreams to exist, but sometimes it is not even about that. The way that we portray a gentleman is way different than a man would describe his perfect woman.

I’ve asked two of my friends how they would portray a gentleman and it was half of what I expected. One of my friends feels as though a gentleman doesn’t have to do with just manners or actions. She feels as though a gentleman is someone who can tell her how it is all the time and say what the truth is no matter if she’s willing to hear it or not. She doesn’t think that it’s someone who opens doors for you or anything like that, she think that it’s mostly someone who can care about what the little things are. Maybe one day when she’s sick, he makes her something special or remembers what her favorite color it. She believes that the little things are all that matter.

My other friend thinks just as any woman would think. She thinks that a man that is respectful and taught good manners is what a gentleman is all about. A man that knows how to say yes ma’am and no ma’am and who is respectful to women and not demeaning to them in any kind of way. A man who shows that he was raised properly and who can always put his mother first.

A gentleman to me is a mixture of all the qualities that I just named. A gentleman is someone who knows what a woman needs. A gentleman is someone who knows how to make plans instead of being confused on how to treat his woman. A gentleman knows how to handle a woman when she’s sick, hurt or tired. A gentleman is someone who doesn’t understand what it is like to be a woman and to have periods or babies, but would like to understand and do anything that he can to help.

Describing a gentleman is the same as describing a perfect man sometimes, but that’s not the way that we see it. Gentlemen do exist and maybe right now we are too young to see who that is in our lives or we aren’t ready for that. A gentleman knows how to sweep a woman off of her feet at any and every given moment. We feel as though we have to search for that in certain lights, but that’s not how it is all the time.

Describing a certain man just gets my hopes up and it makes me happy that there might be someone out there for everyone.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
