In the United States, we treat disease instead of preventing it. We don't think about the consequences of our actions - like the impact our diet has on our overall health - and we think as long as it says organic on the label then we are eating "healthy". The filmmaker of What The Health, Kip Anderson, examines how our diet may have some serious effects on our health. He investigates the food, pharmaceutical and healthcare industries and how they are making billions on the disease model. Our main focus is the disease and not the patient.
With that in mind, diseases like cancer and diabetes are on the rise in today's society. Treatments and drugs that are not covered by insurance are what make the pharmaceutical companies jump with joy. A diet without any animal products is what the filmmaker is pushing. A vegan diet is what will prevent disease but maybe also reverse it. We are living in a world where we don't always make good food choices. It is easier to just go through a drive through and order food instead of taking the time to cook our own meals: it is cheaper to buy fast food than to buy organic.
I don't want to give too much up about the basis of the film but if you are interested in your health, take some time to watch it. The filmmaker is portraying his views and trying to shift your thinking which is the point of most of these documentaries. So with that, take it with a grain of salt and do some research yourself. This is only meant to give you another idea to think about and ponder.
Watch it here - it is also available on Netflix.
