Everyone tells you that high school friendships don’t last forever. Let me tell you something, THEY’RE WRONG.
Here’s why I say your high school BFF’s really will be forever.
You had all of your firsts together.
The first time you all went to a real party. The first time you ran from the cops and had to find your way home from the middle of the woods. You experienced the first boy drama, trying to apply to college, when one befriends someone the rest of the group hates, when you failed your first class, and so many more.
You knew each other in the awkward years.
They might not have been the awkward seventh-grade years, but freshman and sophomore year weren’t too pretty either. You know all the bad decisions that were made, all the horrible outfit choices, and all the weird boys that were obsessed over. All those things you are too embarrassed to tell your new college friends about, they were there for them.
That high school group message you started sophomore year, it doesn’t go away.
That’s the group message you all used to talk throughout the school day or to make sure your outfits coordinated before going to any social event. You still write in it to let each other know you woke up with a dead ant on your finger or that you found the best sushi place in the world. This turns into the group message that’s used when someone hooks up with the wrong guy, thinks they need to drop out of school, decides to change their major, basically anything that you could ever want to tell someone that’s where it goes. (All of these happen more often than you’d think)
You’ve known each other for so long a small fight can’t break you up.
There’s no way that a group of girls are all going to get along every day forever. If you thought that was a real thing you need to do some research. Girls suck. Of course you’ll get in fights about stupid things; you’ll also get into fights about not stupid things. But because you’ve been friends for so long and been through so much nothing can tear you apart. Not even one drunkenly threatening to punch the other in the face at 2 in the afternoon.
If your friendship made it all the way to graduation then that means you’ve gone through too much together to just forget. It doesn’t matter if your colleges are across the country or one state away, that kind of friendship doesn’t just disappear.
