What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up?

The age old question may finally be getting answered.

From the time we are about 5 years old, people ask kids what they want to be when they grow up. At that age, your answer may be a ballerina or an astronaut or a professional athlete.

A few years later, probably about age 10, they ask you again. By then, you may have refined your choices to a teacher, doctor or nurse. In your teenage years, they expect you to have everything figured out. They no longer ask you what you want to be when you grow up because in their eyes you are much too close to be grown up, they simply ask where you see yourself in 10 years. And, if for some reason, by then you haven't seen exactly chosen a career, they look at you like there's something wrong with you.

When I was younger I probably said I wanted to be a singer or an actress. My 7-year-old brain didn't realize how unrealistic either of those options was. A few years later I had my heart set on becoming an artist, that was until I figured out that I was not advanced enough in my artistic talents to make a living out of that. After that, I swore I could be a poet because my sixth-grade rhyming skills were superb. Then, I had my heart set on being a meteorologist, until I realized I wasn't super strong in hard sciences.

Finally, I decided I was going to be a writer; creating my own content and choosing my own topics seems lovely and there is always an abundance of ideas running through my head. But at this stage in my life, I'm not even sure if that's the answer anymore.

Since coming here, I think my mind has changed a bit about what I want to do. I am sure that journalism is the field for me, that much is true. I do not have to be visually artistic, yet I still have the ability to be verbally and auditorily artistic. My current major is broadcast journalism, however, I am not sure if I should stick with that, or switch to print journalism or maybe double major in both. My dream job today would be to work for BBC Radio 1 and have my own show. I want to be the next Nick Grimshaw. I love London and I'd love to live there and provide people with nice new music and get the opportunity to interview my favorite humans.

Part of me also wants to be a sociaI media correspondent for a media outlet. I spend all of my life on the internet anyway, so I might as well make a living doing it.

Although I haven't figured everything out yet degree-wise or career-wise, I do have quite the ideas. I hope everyone finds their dream job and simultaneously is good at whatever it is. Dreams can and do come true!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
