If you’re like me, you spent most your younger years perched in front of the TV watching marathons of Disney movies. These iconic heroines have played a large role in the lives of many people. To this day, no matter how old we are, a lot can be learned from the Disney princesses.

1. Snow White

Starting with the fairest of them all, Snow White maintained a bright composure under her step mother’s cruelty towards her. Besides teaching everyone not to take apples from strangers, she showed the world how positivity and kindness can make the difference. Snow White knew full well that someday her prince would come and, of course, he did.

2. Cinderella

Cinderella is known for being kind in all her endeavors. All she asked for was a night at the ball, and she enjoyed it while it lasted. Even though her abusive family kept her down, Cinderella knew that they could not order her to stop dreaming. This is a lesson that kept Cinderella’s dreams alive for many years. It has done the same for those who have learned from her as well.

3. Aurora

The story of Princess Aurora and her curse is very compelling. For all her life, she was unaware of what was to become of her. Yet, she continued to wonder and remained optimistic in her dreams. Her story taught everyone that you must deal with the inevitable, no matter how painful it may be.

4. Ariel

The story of the little mermaid that fell in love with a human has taught a variety of lessons. For one, Ariel taught us that it is important to be independent and to follow your dreams. However, you must also listen to your parents. They are only trying to protect you. When she raised her daughter Melody, she also taught us that, as a parent, you need to be honest with your children. If she had just told Melody the truth about her past, she wouldn’t have run away and fell for a deal that was too good to be true.

5. Belle

The tale as old has time has brought along a unique and intelligent individual. Belle taught everyone that being strange is okay. Sometimes, you must defy the norms to be yourself, even if it means being the only literate girl in the village. Belle knew she had every right to say no to a man that everyone gawked over. So, she stood up for herself and saw the beauty in everything, including a monstrous beast.

6. Jasmine

Jasmine made it quite clear to everyone that she is not a prize to be won. She had her heart set on following her own beliefs and marrying for love rather than royal status. While others saw a street rat, Jasmine saw a prince and discovered a whole new world. Jasmine is an iconic heroine that taught everyone to see the best in people and to never be afraid to say what you believe.

7. Pocahontas

Pocahontas strived to follow her own path just around the riverbend. She was brave and did what she felt was right. As the Virginia Company sailed to the new world, Pocahontas was determined to teach John Smith to see the perspective of others before judging them, which is something we can all learn from.

8. Mulan

Right from the start, Mulan felt that she could never bring her family honor. Yet, after defeating the Huns and saving all of China, she proved herself wrong. It goes without saying that Mulan showed the world that a girl can do what a guy can do. You will find a way to prove yourself special as long as you stay true to your heart.

9. Tiana

When it comes to hard work, Tiana takes the cake. Being the first African American Disney princess has made her an important role model to people all around the world. Her story proved that dreams do come true in New Orleans. She is not an everyday princess, and her message is to never give up until your dreams become reality.

10. Rapunzel

Rapunzel’s bubbly spirit and courage taught us that you need to leave your comfort zone to see the light. Her story also allowed people to see that your parents are not always right. It is also worth mentioning that Flynn Rider played a big role in Rapunzel’s journey. He taught her that once your dream comes true, you get to find a new one.

11. Merida

As the bravest of them all, Merida chased the wind and touched the sky as she stood out from the other Disney princesses. Her story teaches us that conflicts should be solved in a responsible manner. Communication is needed to avoid a grizzly situation. Merida proved to everyone that you do not need a man to complete yourself. Love will be found in your own time, which is such a comfort to know.

12. Elsa

Queen Elsa’s situation was a subject that the Disney franchise had not touched before. Elsa’s story of suffering and solitude left a very important message to all age groups. If you are feeling depressed, you need to find help. Talk about your problems to people you trust. Do not seclude yourself from the world. Hiding your problems will not solve anything, which is something that everyone must understand.

13. Anna

Princess Anna is quite different from her sister Elsa. Young and bright, Anna was so naïve and desperate for love that she fell for a dishonest man right off the bat. Love is an open door, but Anna learned that you should not fall for someone without getting to know them first. In addition, it is important to keep your siblings close, no matter what the circumstance.

14. Moana

Moana is a leader ahead of her time. When she sailed across the sea to save her people, she had no idea how far she’d go. She learned that you must respect the ocean and that confidence is key if you don’t know what you’re doing. Her story also allowed Maui to learn about forgiveness and making up for what you’ve done wrong. It is a lesson that many people can learn from.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
