1. Coffee crisp chocolate bars.
I’m not a coffee drinker, but this chocolate bar makes me re-think my beverage options. Their wafer interiors have a well-balanced coffee-to-chocolate ratio that will leave you wanting more.
2. Authentic Maple syrup.
This natural, rich, sugary treat can be found all over Canada-- specifically in Quebec. During the winter months, many residents of Quebec participate in an amazing celebration known as 'Carnival de Quebec'. The joyous carnival, which lasts 17 days, is represented by a mascot named Bonhomme, and people come from all over the world to see the ice-sculpting competitions and to partake in various snow activities. However, the best part is eating the delicious sugary sap on ice. It’s honestly just a maple syrup Popsicle, but it will make you the happiest (and messiest) kid on earth.

3. Calgary Stampede.
Hopping on the carnival bandwagon, I wanted to mention a country carnival that takes place annually in Calgary, Alberta...my home city! The carnival is a huge, 9-day event that occurs during the summer. The nice weather allows people to go on rides, and party outside in cowboy boots and hats. Every year at least three big country stars (such as Blake Shelton, Sheryl Crow, and Keith Urban), come to our grounds and perform. If you are a country-music enthusiast, this is a great place for you. Actually, even if you’re not a fan of country, but are a big fan of food, you're sure to enjoy yourself at the carnival. There have been countless inventive foods that food trucks and restaurants have brought to the carnival grounds. Deep-fried Oreos and scorpion pizza are just a few choice examples. It’s a lot of fun with friends and family, too. There are a wide range of activities available, including chuck-wagon races, bull riding, rodeo shows, marching band performances with the RCMP officers, animal exhibitions and nightly concerts with up-and-coming bands. It’s an event that is highly anticipated.

This is a very sugary pastry that is very popular across Canada. It is essentially a flat churro that you can top it with most anything you can imagine. You have so many options: traditional cinnamon-sugar, apples, bananas, Nutella, M&M’s, ice cream, and so much more! I first had this treat in the eastern province of Nova Scotia when I was a child, and to this day it never fails to bring a smile to my face!
5. Banff Lake Louise.
For people who want to get in touch with nature, go for a scenic landscape, or venture out into a quaint town, this is where you should stop by. Banff is known for its ski and snowboarding avenue to a ski hill called Sunshine. I often miss the beautiful landscapes that this place offers whenever I leave. There are plenty of things to do that can satisfy any goer: skiing, snowboarding, horseback riding, trail hiking, yoga, ‘mom & pop’ shops, bakeries, ice cream creameries, boutiques, coffee shops, a castle (that’s right a castle! It’s absolutely beautiful), art galleries, water rafting, fishing…oh my gosh there’s so much more. I’ve been in the castle for brunch with my family and the food was not only stomach-bursting good, but being able to look onto the crystal Lake Louise lake is truly breathtaking. Here is a photo of the Lake, which was taken by a Canadian photographer named Spencer Dove.
