"You're just buying your friends" "That's ridiculous you have to do all that stuff" "What are you even doing an event for" "All sorority girls just want to party" I wish I've had a dollar for every time I've heard one of these before. But I am here to tell you that these are false. And there is no use in arguing with someone about this stuff because they just won't listen. However, if you have an open mind about it or you are curious about recruitment, I'm about to tell you what you really do when you join a sorority.
At the core of every sorority is its philanthropy. The reason there are sororities is to give back as well as building bonds with women that share that same interest as you. Point blank. There is no reason to argue over this. Yes, there are socials, and a nice big house, and all sorts of other great things, but that is just to add to the experience. Its all built around making the bond stronger that already exists thanks to your philanthropy. And that should never be confused or forgotten.
However, there is no other feeling in the world than walking into a house that loves and supports you when you are so far away from your actual family. They will be there for you no matter what. Through thick, thin, and recruitment practices. They will be there.
When you're doubting who you are. Doubting you can make it through college, crying at a table at the house during finals because you are so overwhelmed, they will be there. They might be crying too, but your sisters will be there. It's finding your best friend soul mate to do life with and call 20 years down the road when your kids are acting crazy and to gossip about the latest news.
Your sisters are there to fall asleep on each other after a long bus ride to a sisterhood event and you're exhausted but you had the best day ever just hanging out with them. And enjoying each others company. It's having every single meal with them and laughing over the fails that happened that day or reminiscing on past experiences. Making spring break plans and anything else you can think of. Your sisters will be there with you through it all.
