West 7th: Untapped

12

Freshmen only hear the great stories that take place on West 7th from their friends who are fortunate enough to be of age to experience it.  Along with downtown, West 7th is the prime destination that all fresh twenty-one year olds flock to in hopes of experiencing a more upscale and sophisticated nightlife scene.  It’s likely that these enthusiastic young drinkers will visit all the popular places that they’ve heard about like Reservoir, Bar Louie, and Chimy’s, but there are many other places that students have yet to venture to in the West 7th area.

Pour House

The Pour House has been a part of Fort Worth Nightlife for nearly twenty years and since its relocation from downtown to West 7th in 2009, it has thrived and grown into a one of the liveliest and exciting places to spend a night out.  It offers live music from bands as well as DJs and karaoke.  They have special events like Cowtown Idol, DJ Spinoff Competitions, and their famous Fat Tuesday Party.  Their very own Chef Alonso created and award winning menu that offers delectable choices for lunch and dinner along with their famous Sunday “hangover” Brunch”.  With hundreds of local, domestic, and imported beers to choose from and dozens of televisions, The Pour House is the perfect place to spend the night out, drink beer, and watch the game with friends. Depending on how well your night goes, you may be back for that brunch that your liver will be yearning for.

Barcadia

Release your inner child at Barcadia!  Tucked across the street from Montgomery Plaza, Barcadia is home to 50s pin up girls on the walls, dozens of 80s arcasde games for only a quarter, and twenty four beers on tap.  If you can name a vintage game, then Barcadia probably has it.  Games like Galaga, Tron, air hockey, skee ball, Frogger, and Pac-Man all reside in this gamer’s paradise.  Daily specials are hard to pass up with Free Play and Happy Hour all night on Mondays, half priced food on Wednesdays, and Happy Hour until 8 on Fridays.  If you’re looking for a great place to drink and hang out with buddies then this is the place to check out.  Women Beware!

Martini Lounge

Tired of being crammed into a bar, waiting 20 minutes for a drink, then having to deal with finding a spot to sit or stand?  If so, the Martini Lounge might just be the place you’re looking for.  Martini Lounge offers a modern, up-scale, and sophisticated venue to enjoy a more relaxed night on the town.  Generally, it attracts an older crowd than most of the other bars on 7th but still offers a great atmosphere.  With the regular menu consisting of 26 martinis and the “Legends Menu” consisting of 65 martinis, you are sure to find a drink that will satisfy.  It’s a perfect place to have a private event as well.  The Private Room is furnished with large leather couches, flat screen televisions, a standing humidor consisting of fine cigars, and a private wait staff.  Though it may not be the wild night a college student is looking for, it is definitely worth the experience.

Brownstone

If you’ve ever been to West 7th then you have probably seen Brownstone, or maybe even experienced it. However, as far as TCU students go, it is relatively untapped.  Located across the street from Movie Tavern, Brownstone boasts a restaurant that seats 140, and open-air patio, private dining room and an intimate library and bar.  Like Martini Lounge, Brownstone is likely to attract the slightly older, but still youthful crowd.  They have competitive drink and food prices, and offer a laid-back atmosphere perfect for an intimate date or just relaxing get together with a small group of friends.  It’s perfect for those young people who want to get away from crowded and dirty college bars and experience something a bit more upper-echelon.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
