A snowflake is a single ice crystal, or an aggregation of ice crystals. When it falls to the ground, it makes this huge compilation of flakes that blend together covering the ground in white. But, once the snow stops falling we forget how it all got there. I'm from this little town that shuts down at the sight of a flurry. The grocery store aisles are full of people scrounging for the last loaf of bread and jug of milk left on the shelves before the roads get covered in black ice and ice covered power lines cause outages. This kind of thing happens once every two years (if we're lucky), and it's gone in a matter of days. So, I've always been amazed by these glittering white flakes falling from the sky. I can remember sitting at the window staring at the flakes pile up for as long as I've been able to peer over the sill of the window on tip-toes, my hands pulling my body up to see outside. Obviously that's not quite how it goes anymore, but I still sit on my bed watching the snow fall through the window, coffee in one hand and Netflix on the tv in front of me... (thats until I bundle up to play in it, and that hasn't changed a bit since my childhood.)
I was staring out of my dorm window, in this (slightly bigger than home, farther North) small town. I have never seen as much snow in my life as I have in the last two years. It still just never gets old. The snowflakes are so intriguing. Watching them fall individually from the sky, twinkling down onto the ground and piling up.
The cool thing about snowflakes? They're all different in their own incredible, unique ways. After staring at them for years on end, marveling in the short-lived moments of the snow falling down, I've started making connections. These snowflakes are all different. They all tumble down from the sky differently. Their symmetric makeup differs between each single flake. They come in different shapes and sizes.
Every single snowflake is different, just like people. No single person is the same. My friends are of different ethnicities and sizes, they each have varying talents and interests. But guess what? They're still beautiful in their own way.
Each snowflake piles up, creating these huge masses of snow... but it's beautiful. Each person you encounter has different talents or interests, and piled up... it's beautiful. How boring would this world be if every person you encountered was exactly the same? Appreciate every single person you come across, and build them up for their differences, because it might just change a life.
We're like snowflakes. Delicate. Different. Beautiful.
