Last weekend, I got to visit the city of Saint Louis, Missouri. It is the capital of the state and known for the Gateway Arch, the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, and delicious barbeque. I have been to St. Louis before, passing through on a road trip home to California, took a trip with my ex-girlfriend and this past weekend for a piano competition. This time, it was a little colder and I didn't have as much time to hang around; however I got great pictures of the arch and downtown.
1. The Gateway Arch
Probably what makes the city stand out the most. I got to park right off the Missouri river and get close-up pictures of the arch. If tickets were cheaper and I had more time, I would have gone up in the arch. I heard that they take you all the way up in this elevator. To me, that sounds a little frightening seeing that the arch actually moves with the direction of the wind. It was a pretty sight to see though.
2. The Old Courthouse
This place is a historic national landmark and is beautiful on the inside and out. If you walk directly into the center of the courthouse, you can hear your voice echo through the corridors and hallways. They even have a tour of the courthouse and surrounding areas.
3. City Garden
This place is an artist's magical paradise. A lot of workers come here to relax on their break and couples come here for a picnic during lunch. It has incredible architecture like a giant bunny rabbit in the center of the park and a headless pink suited man similar to David Byrne in the movie "Stop Making Sense".
4. St. Louis Zoo
This place has every animal and insect and is one of the largest zoos in the United States. It is located in Central Park which has beautifully manicured grass and the best part is admission is free. The only thing you have to pay for is parking. It is worth it to go.
5. Pappy's Smokehouse
If you are in the mood for barbeque, this is by far the best barbeque restaurant in St. Louis. You might have to wait 20-30 minutes in line but it is worth the wait. The pulled port is very juicy and tender, the beef brisket is fall off the bone deliciousness and the ribs with that sweet and tangy barbeque sauce is mouth-watering good. When I went there, I ordered a Pulled Pork sandwich with barbeque baked beans and sweet potato fries and Fitz's root beer, all for $12. It was the best meal I ever had on my road trip.
Well, these are just a few things you need to do if you ever go to Saint Louis. Enjoy your time in the Show-Me state.
