A Weekend Getaway From COVID-19

A Weekend Getaway From COVID-19
Personal

Last weekend, I was given the opportunity to get out of Tallahassee for a few days and I could not have been more excited. With the closure of the FSU campus and most businesses surrounding the Tallahassee area, most people, including both of my roommates, opted to leave and go back home to their primary residences. Tallahassee is pretty boring when you don't have classes or work to attend and you're told to stay inside as much as possible.

Prior to my trip, I finished writing a paper for one of my classes which was due Monday morning. While I normally take homework with me when I go on trips, I didn't want any distractions on this one. I truly want to take the time to relax and enjoy myself. With the world focused on the issue of COVID-19, I wanted a weekend away from all of the stress surrounding it.

I met a friend at Kingsley Lake and we stayed in a hut on the lake for the weekend. We originally planned to drive out to St. Augustine but with everything closed down, we decided to stay around the base. It is a beautiful place to relax. The whole base gives off a sensation of peace. At night, we sat outside by the lake watching the boats go by and enjoying the sunset. We took a long hike and swam in the lake, getting some sun and some exercise. All in all, we enjoyed each other's company while also enjoying the fresh air and peacefulness surrounding the lake. I didn't want that weekend to end and after being home for three days, I just want to go back.

The minute I left the base, reality swooped back in and all of the emails I'd ignored and work I'd left behind came rushing in. I wish I could've stayed there for the rest of the semester instead of having to return to an empty apartment in Tallahassee.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
