Recently, I have been chosen to be a Spring Campus Representative for the company, Serengetee. You may be reading this article asking yourself, “What in the world is ‘Serengetee’?” Well, you should actually be asking yourself, “WHERE in the world is ‘Serengetee’?” If you’re into cute clothes and fabrics that serve an awesome mission, read on, friends, because I’m about to tell you about a great company that everyone should know about.
Two college friends, Jeff and Ryan, started Serengetee in 2012 after they had spent a Semester at Sea, travelling to countries in Africa, Asia, and Central America. They toured their way through several countries and markets, collecting unique fabrics from the local artisans. Although they had zero fashion experience and probably about $2 left in their pockets (since I totally relate to the whole poor college student lifestyle that they too endured), they started making pocket tees from their dorm rooms, highlighting each unique fabric from around the world.
Serengetee uses different, colorful fabrics from over 25 different countries, and in return, give back 10% of their profits to a number of different causes. For instance, the “Auki” fabric from Solomon Islands supports the Kilu’ufi Hospital, which serves and cures the artists’ community, while the “Metz” fabric from France supports the A21 Campaign, which seeks to end human trafficking through prevention, protection, and prosecution.
Each fabric has a different story: a different place they are from, a different cause they support, and a different means of assembly. Each fabric is unique, and you are able to add it to different clothes, accessories, and more, making it your own personal style, while wearing a part of the world.
Now I know you’re all thinking about my dad pun from the title of this article; I know it was bad. But do me a favor and think of me when you buy your awesome new bucket and cute new crop top and #WearTheWorld around the world and support great missions all at the same time.
