A Psychic Kid
She looked out of the window as the teacher spoke to the class, hearing what he was saying, but not bothering to comprehend it. Her mind was off in another dimension, soaring through the galaxy, wishing she was anywhere but school. She closed her eyes and turned off her ears, pretending that she couldn’t hear anything around her. She prayed and wished that when she opened her eyes she’d be in another place; preferably at home and in bed. Much to her dismay, when she tuned in to her surroundings, the teachers monotone voice rolled through her ears.
Allison was helpless and miserable. She knew all the things that the teacher was teaching, why was she expected to stay here? She clinched her hands together and felt the familiar sting in her shoulder from the unplanned shot she’d been given the morning before.
“Honey, you have a doctor’s appointment at ten. Don’t worry about getting up right now, sleep a little longer.” Her mother had said that morning.
Allison questioned it, because her mother hadn’t told her of the appointment at any point in time.
“It wasn’t planned. Strangely, the doctor called last night after you went to bed and told me that you’d been scheduled for an appointment this morning. I knew nothing of it, but let’s just go in and see what it’s about, okay?”
And that’s just what they did.
*Flashback*
“Allison Richards, Doctor Alexander will see you now.” The nurse called from the door leading out into the waiting room.
Allison and her mother stood up and walked enter the door into the hallway, but the nurse held up her hand, “I’m sorry, ma’am. Since Allison is sixteen years of age, she is allowed to go back by herself. No worries, it’s only a check-up.”
But that was a lie…
Allison’s mom looked at the two of them reluctantly, but nodded and let Allison go back with the nurse.
When they reached a certain room, the nurse guided Allison in. The lights were dimmed and an operating table with straps was sitting in front of her.
“Uh…” Allison began, but the nurse hushed her and pointed to the table.
“Just lie down dear. Do not worry, this will all go by smoothly.” The doctor’s deep voice sounded as he walked into the room, pulling on white gloves and a small mask.
Allison’s eyes furrowed, but she complied. She just wanted to get this over with.
She laid out on the table, and almost jumped off immediately as the doctor walked over and began to strap her down.
“Don’t struggle and don’t tense your muscles. This is for safety purposes only.” The doctor warned her, his eyes hidden by dark frames.
She nodded nervously.
“Charlotte, can you get me the injection needle? Also, get something for this sweet girl to bite down on.” When Allison squeaked, he smiled down at her warmly, “Don’t worry, honey. You’re getting a shot today. Something that our government has deemed necessary for certain people. You just so happened to be on the list and we have to obey the new medical laws.”
Moments later, the nurse came back into the room with a vial unlike any that she’d ever seen before. The liquid on the inside was a shiny purple, lighting up the nurse’s hand as she passed it over to Doctor Alexander. He flicked the side of it and allowed some of the content to spurt out of the top before he removed his glasses and bent down to clean her arm with an alcohol pad.
She shivered nervously as he positioned the needle on a vein in her wrist, “This will probably hurt a bit, depending on your pain tolerance. I’ll try to make it as swift as possible. Just stay calm and try not to move.”
Allison nodded and bit down on the rag that the nurse had gently laid over her mouth.
He pressed the needle down and broke skin, pushing the liquid into her veins as she screamed out in pain. Doctor Alexander cringed at this, hating that he was upsetting one of his favorite patients, but knowing it had to be done.
Once all the fluid was coursing through her bloodstream, the doctor gently slipped the needle from her skin and placed it down on a metal tray.
The room was silent, but this was only the calm before the storm…
As Doctor Alexander was removing the straps that constrained Allison, she started seizing. Things started to levitate around them and Allison rose from the bed, unconsciously. Her eyes shined like the purple liquid, and she coughed softly, blinking twice before falling back to the bed.
Everything that happened afterwards was a blur to her. Her mother took her home, highly confused as to why her daughter was some type of zombie, but she never asked any questions. Not very responsible, but in the type of world we live in, how many people still are?
