The Most Common Worries Of College Students

College is a very interesting time in our lives. Maybe you love your college, just feel okay about it, or don't like it at all. All of our college experiences will be different and here are some reasons why. You might be living on campus, commuting, thousands miles from home, a transfer student, full-time, part-time, barely involved, very involved and so much more! These factors all play a role in your college experience. These factors also play a level in how much you might be worrying. For me at least, I used to worry a lot about things, even before college. That's just me, I worry about so much. I am still like that now but I have started to worry a little bit less. Baby steps!

Here are some things I personally think we shouldn't be worrying about during college:

Finishing in 4 Years

When we think about college, typically the goal is to finish in four years. What if I told you that everyone doesn't finish in four years? Maybe you knew this or maybe you didn't. Does this feel unsettling to you? It did to me at first but then I realized life happens. You never know what can happen in the next four years. They might not go exactly as you planned and that is perfectly fine. As many have told me, it doesn't matter when you finish but just that you finish.

Changing Your Major

I came into college undeclared. I thought I wanted to major in biology with a pre-dental track but weeks into school, I didn't feel too sure about it. I am glad I didn't officially declare biology and stayed undeclared. I was able to take a variety of classes to discover what I liked and didn't like. I even transfer schools during the time. I didn't declare until my second semester of sophomore year. Right now I am a Finance and Business Management double major. I am having doubts about my majors so I might switch once again. I know this might delay my graduation date and this was something I really worried about freshman year and the majority of my sophomore year. Now I'm not too worried about it. I just want to finish school without any regrets. I want to be happy with my major and I want everyone who is reading this to be happy with their major as well! The main take-away is that your college major doesn't define you. You could end up pursuing a career path that has nothing to do with your major and that's completely fine.

What You Wear to Class

Go to class in whatever you feel most comfortable in! I'm sure those who didn't wear sweats to class envy you. If you want to dress up for class then dress up! Nobody is stopping you. Do a full face of makeup if you want or go bare face. But it's more than likely the way you dress a certain day probably depends on how much you time you gave yourself to get ready. I do recommend that if you're presenting for a class, you should dress up unless your professor says it's not required to.

Getting Your Dream Job Right After Graduation

This is highly unlikely. We all have to start from somewhere. You might even have to work your way up to your dream job and that's perfectly fine. There could be a job along the way that you love and you might feel satisfied enough to stay on that path. You honestly never know so don't be discouraged if you don't get a call back from your dream employer. Don't give up! You don't want to end up with no job at all so sometimes you have to settle until you can find something better. There are some college graduates who cannot find a job so be grateful for any job that you land after graduation. You'll still be young, there will be plenty of time!

I know we college students have tons of other worries but I feel like these are probably the most common!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
