Well folks, it’s come to an end. The annual Beta Love Rave is now a memory, and we have to wait another year until we can experience the maddening fun that the event provides. The men of Beta Theta Pi set up sub speakers, flashing lights, and covered the walls of “Little Beta,” the house where pledges live and where the event was held, with black tarps decorated with graffiti-esque designs and glow-in-the-dark spray paint, and invite the students of Oklahoma State for a four hour-long rave.
The seventh annual Love Rave drew in roughly 400 students, all decked out in clothing that would glow under the black lights, on February 14, 2015. All girls were welcome to attend, and boys who weren’t members of Beta Theta Pi were required to have a wristband in order to be permitted inside. Will Ross, social chair for Beta Theta Pi, said he started planning the event about four weeks in advance.
All the planning was done by members of Beta Theta Pi. Cale Potts, a junior, was the DJ and helped find and set up speakers, and Brett Humphrey, also a junior, provided free Red Bull for people at the event. Jimmy Norton, a junior, Ross Morales, a sophomore, Shane Horner, a sophomore, and Tom Occhipinti, a freshman, all helped Ross with the specifics for the event.
Lauren Larsen, a freshman, said she was at the Love Rave from 10:00pm to midnight. “I really enjoyed the energy and the pumped up music! It was so fun to rave with my friends,” Larsen said. Larsen heard about the event from friends and people who had gone to last year’s Love Rave. Freshman pledges went to all the Greek houses the week before to give dinner announcements about the event, and the Love Rave was also promoted on social media websites like Twitter.
The annual Beta Love Rave was, once again, a huge success. “The purpose of the event was to just have a fun time for Valentine’s Day,” Ross said. And from my personal experience at the Love Rave, I think that goal was accomplished. Here’s to you, Beta, for providing a fun and safe way to spend Valentine’s Day!
