8 Ways To Make The Most Of Your Weekends In College

As fun as Netflix in bed can be after a long week, it can be refreshing to go out and make some mems. Here are some of my favorite ways I've spent my weekends in college, and some ways that I hope to spend future weekends.

1. Events in town

From concerts to plays to food trucks to races, there's always some new event happening in most college towns. Attend as many as you can! They really help shape the ~culture~ of your college town, and they're a great way to see a different side of your academic home.

2. Restaurants

For all you foodies out there - hit up Yelp and try out all the top restaurants in your area! And then after that, seek out those hole-in-the-wall places that aren't as popular.

3. Historical sites

History might not be everyone's cup of tea, but learning about your town gives it so much personality and life. Look up historic sites in your area and check them out, you might be pleasantly surprised at what you find!

4. Nature trails

Not all campuses will have these, but utilize them if you do! Weekends are the time to explore your campus, apart from exploring the dining halls. Hanging out with some friends in nature is a great way to do it. Have a picnic while you're at it.

5. Events in nearby major cities

If your college town isn't huge, check out what's going on in cities nearby. I go to UGA, so Atlanta is only an hours drive away. My friends and I all went to Music Midtown this year, and it was such a fun time. Check out what's happening near you!

6. Visiting other schools

If you want to take a little trip, go visit your buddies at other schools! These kinds of trips are so convenient, because you typically won't have to pay for a hotel room or anything if you're visiting a friend. And they will love to show you around their town!

7. Local shops

Support your local shops! Explore the local coffee shops, boutiques, or antique shops. The people that own these places have such cool stories to tell. See what your town has to offer.

8. Farmers markets

I love a good Farmers Market. If you have one near you, grab some friends and scope it out.

These are only a handful of ways to add some extra value to your weekends. The possibilities are endless, find what's most interesting to you and go for it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
