If you have curly hair, then you've probably heard about the versatility of it. Many curly girls fall in love with their hair because they are allowed to do more with it and they can finally get it wet. However, we struggle with the elaborate styles that we see on YouTube, but that is okay. Here are a few basic styles that are necessary to learn before you go any further. These styles should work on short-to-medium length hair.
1. The Wash-N-Go.
I rave about this basic style because it is the one you will find me in most often. Though the name is pretty controversial, the basics of it are washing and conditioning your hair, then set it in its natural curl pattern. There are even different methods of setting the hair in its curl pattern that can garner a good result. Once hair is set while wet, you can let it air dry, sit under a hooded dryer, or diffuse. Preserve by sleeping in a pineapple or bonnet.
2. The Twist Out.
A throwback favorite of mine from my freshman year of college, this style requires washing and conditioning your hair, applying your leave-in and styler, and two- strand twisting sections of hair. Once hair is twisted, let it dry or sit under a hooded dryer. Once dry, unravel the twist and see the curl pattern. Preserve by sleeping in a pineapple, bonnet, or re-twisting as needed.
3. The Bantu-Knot Out.
Another throwback favorite, this one is a little bit more tricky. After washing and conditioning, take small sections of hair and twist (not two-strand) the section until it tightens at your roots. Then, take the hair away from the scalp and twist it around the roots (sounds complicated, but it works). Continue all over your head. Air-dry or sit under a hooded dryer. Once dry, un-knot the sections and fluff.
4. The High Puff.
When that wash-n-go or twist- out fails, and you need to do something but don't have the time to refresh, this is what you need. Take a water bottle, and spray it along your edges. Then, take some form of gel and smooth it in with a brush. Then, pull all of your hair at the top of your head. Take a thin satin scarf or tie and tie it around your hair at the top of your hair. Fluff out the puff and use some more gel to polish your edges
5. Sleek Back Styles.
Another one for when that wash-n-go or twist out fails or just gets old. Take a water bottle and spray along your edges. This time, with the gel and brush, smooth your hair back. Take either that satin tie or a ponytail holder and create a pony tail, bun, or whatever. For added drama, before you smooth down your hair, take a rat-tail comb and create a defined part.
