As soon as the oh so glorious previews for new movie Sisters started to air, you can bet your butt my sister and I were like, “We gotta see that.” Because we both LOVE Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and just about every other actor involved who grace the screen with their presence in this film, we were beyond ready for this experience. And you can be sure we weren’t going to see it without each other.
Watching Sisters with her by my side as well as my lovely mother and boyfriend (poor guy, we were both pretty annoying during this movie, I have to admit, he’s a keeper) was quite a treat. The entire two hours consisted of: a healthy dose of chuckling, camaraderie, silent bickering, and touching but overly cheesy grins filled with love. Wait, that sentence just described our entire relationship as sisters. No but seriously, we had a great time. While Amy and Tina aren’t sisters by blood, they certainly are sisters at heart, which made the movie a hilarious and truthful ride for the both of us. It was like we were watching our relationship unfold on screen, but we could not tell who was who.
We saw characteristics of onscreen sisters Maura (Amy Poehler) and Kate (Tina Fey) in the real life Lauren and Michaela, but we could not figure out which of us was Maura and the other Kate. Kate’s overly-dramatic temper tantrums, in your face attitude, and quick witted comebacks completely and fully define my sister Lauren. On the other hand, Lauren is pretty responsible and has (most of) her life together, like Maura.
Myself, like Kate, am slightly unorganized and tend to go more with the flow, plus I am pretty good at styling my own hair (unlike Lauren, she is in constant need of my styling abilities) and have always been super creative. Then again, I am super awkward, enjoy helping people, and hate conflict, much like Maura. That is why I love the film so much. Both sisters are badass and equipped with super awesome qualities characteristics that they tactfully use to play off of one another throughout life and it's challenges. This is not only a strategy, but a talent that Lauren and I have completely mastered at this point in our lives. It seems Amy and Tina have too.
Even though we did not have the same life or experiences as Maura and Kate, Sisters successfully replicated our mischievous behavior and untouchable relationship for the whole world to see. PLUS, it reminds every sister out there that your sister has your back no matter what, with the small but necessary price of heavy name-calling and potential blackmail. If you have a good relationship with your sister, watch the darn movie is all I’m getting at. Make sure you have her by your side, it will lead to two hours of endless fun and laughter.
