Your Voice Matters

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Your Voice Matters
Marissa Knox

Writing has always been a passion of mine, an outlet if you want to call it. It all started out in high school where I joined my school's newspaper on a whim. From there, my passion grew. I quickly found a fascination with words. I loved how a plethora of words had the power to paint a picture and resonate with so many people. And to this day, I still love that about writing.

My college years came, and I shocked myself by not just becoming a content creator for one organization, but for two organizations. I was writing fun pieces that pertained to my campus, but the readership was low for newspapers and I wanted to reach a larger audience and on a more personal level. That's why I decided to step further outside of my comfort zone by joining Odyssey.

Little did I know at the time, my voice would greatly impact others.

You see, I always say that I write so that others feel like they're not alone, like they have someone who they can relate to, someone who gets them. And with that, I've covered numerous topics, varying from light and fun to heavy and sad.

Through my writings, I allowed myself to be vulnerable.

I shared a side of myself that you would not typically see on the surface. I gave insight into my life, my hardships, and my growth. Through those experiences, I gave guidance to anyone who may be going through a similar situation. By no means did readers have to follow my words of advice.

My articles are my perspective. Did I write some articles that pushed the envelope? Sure, I definitely triggered some people. Not everyone has the same opinion and that is the point of this platform.

Odyssey is a platform of perspectives.

I don't regret any of my articles because I've grown in a lot of ways by writing them. You can learn a lot about a person based on what they write about. The same goes on what people focus on. Through my writings, I have come to realize I am a huge advocate for personal growth and positivity.

I say that because I've learned that having a positive attitude gives you power over your circumstances instead of your circumstances having power over you. You're striving to be a better version of yourself so with that in mind, there is nothing wrong with removing negativity out of your life.

You're a priority and you deserve to be happy.

So share your voice, because it matters. It matters to others, but it also matters to you. Your voice allows you to grow and learn in so many ways. Looking back, you'll see the change. I know I did and for that, I am so fortunate.

I'm forever grateful for Odyssey giving me the opportunity to freely share my voice on this platform. I am also forever thankful for those who reached out to me, expressing how much my words resonated with them in my articles.

Ironically enough, words can't describe how thankful and appreciative I am.

But I am just that, thankful.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
