A vision board is more than a collection of magazine clippings and stickers pasted on a corkboard.

Vision boards are helpful in terms of creating long-term goals and inspiring you to take action. Vision boards provide vision and clarity that will encourage you to take steps to accomplish your dreams.

Anyone can cut out magazine clippings and cute quotes and call it a day. To make a vision board that helps you be more successful, there are a few things to do before picking up the scissors.

When it comes to sitting down and making a vision board, it is critical to jot down some notes or come up with goals before cutting out pictures and your magazines. Think of inspiring visuals that capture your goals and mindset.

Start thinking about what you have already accomplished and where you want to go next. What do you want to change? If you had no restrictions, what would you do differently?

Some example goals include:

Getting in shape or eating healthier

Raising your GPA

Landing your dream job or internship

Buying a house

Improving your relationships

Building on your previous success

Changing something that is making you unhappy

Eliminating or finding a solution to barriers that are holding you back from your ideal life

If your best friend saw your vision board, would they be able to recognize that it is yours? Be sure to hang your board in a place you will see it daily

After you have a clear idea of what you want your vision board to portray, grab your scissors and throw on your work hat. Magazine clippings, cardstock, stickers, and ribbon are great materials to build your art piece. To make your vision board even more personal, print out pictures online that are relevant.

Your vision board is your own tool and you can be very useful. Go forth and conquer some new goals.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
