I recently saw a tweet from the creator of vine, Dom Hoffman, depicting what looks like the logo for the comeback of the beloved app Vine. Another tweet he recently posted confirmed the creation of the new version of the app everyone so dearly misses. People have been tweeting, messaging, and posting about how much they miss vine ever since its tragic end. That may be about to change.
THIS IS THE BEST NEWS I'VE GOTTEN ALL OF 2017.
Vine was such a huge hit and it was absolutely devastating to see it being bought out by Twitter. I'm sure there are thousands of people who would pick Vine over Twitter any day. We felt betrayed and more than anything, disappointed. Vine is part of this generation's culture now and they just snatched it from under us as if we wouldn't care. Well, we did care. And we still do.
The vines that went viral have been incorporated into every day language. I, for one, use "it's my OPINION!!!" and "oh my f***ing god she f***ing dead" on a daily basis.
People who didn't grow up during the era of vine truly will never understand how much it impacted this generation. Vine was a social media that was created so far after the creation of Twitter, Facebook, and Snapchat, no one expected it to blow up the way it did. Although Viners like Lele Pons and Brittany Furlan tried their best to ruin the app for all of us, we still appreciated the efforts made by actual funny viners like Nick Colletti and sydney ok.
My fear with the comeback of vine is that it's not going to be the same. Vine was one of the most iconic, if not THE most iconic social media apps ever created. V2 won't have the same iconic vines like "oovoo javer" and "miss keisha." What if the new viners that become popular aren't half as funny? These are genuine concerns that I have.
But... in honor of the comeback of Vine, here are some of my favorite vine-related tweets:
