The Viewpoint Of The Older Sibling

We all have a younger brother or sister that will always push themselves to be the best they can be.

The Viewpoint Of The Older Sibling

Dear Younger Sibling,

I can’t wait to see what is about to come out of your life. I can’t wait to see how all of the things I have put you through have made a meaningful impact on your life. I can’t wait to watch you chase your dreams and achieve anything and everything you are capable of. I can’t wait to see you prove how much you are worth. I can’t wait to see all of the fantastic things that are created because of your beautiful mind. It will be wonderful, that I can promise you.

A younger brother or sister can be a pain in their younger years, but you will soon learn that you wouldn’t have it any other way. You soon realize that they can teach you things just as you can teach them. The process goes full circle even if you don’t realize it.

But first let me back track and give you the whole story. We all have a younger brother or sister that will always push themselves to be the best, but not without some playful fun. It is through this play and pranks that develops a relationship that is deeper than just family, but rather a relationship based on loyalty and togetherness. Through this togetherness, you develop a bond that becomes unbreakable. I mean let’s be real, who else are you going to joke around with when Grandpa forgets to put sugar in the pies... right? It is this bond that truly binds you as family, but truly links you as siblings, who are in this together.

I find that to be absolutely crazy because he will achieve more than I will and its not strictly on just brains. It amazes me how even though I may be the older sibling, I am constantly the rock that propels a younger sibling to work extra hard to push themselves to be better than their elders. It is through this extra work that they develop ideal characteristics that will allow them to pave their future in whichever direction they please. It is these characteristics that will allow them to be everything they had hoped for and more.

It is this work ethic that sets younger siblings up for life. The effort and work will create something within them that will spill over into aspects of their life. The extra work will create a will inside of them that will flow into their academic life, their home life, and will even allow them to impact their child’s life some day. It is this work ethic that will allow them to capture all of the dreams they have, even if they have the entire world in their hands.

So hats off to the younger siblings that will solve the worlds problems and wont even think twice because it’s all in a day’s work.

Sincerely,

Your Loving Older Silbing

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
