Where Videos Help Achieve A Dream

My love of Space Games and how it helped me achieve my dream

Growing up one of the many things we all wanted to do is live out our dreams. My dream was to become an astronaut so I can explore space, but it is almost impossible for that to happen. As someone who grew up on “Star Wars” and “Star Trek”, how do I achieve this dream? Well I play video games that take place in space. With the amount of games that center itself around space, of course I’m going to try and play them. Whether it be a horror or adventure game, the idea of being transported to the place that I always want to explore was finally achieved… Kind of. Here are the games that I play that allow me to live out this fantasy of space exploration. Throughout the article, there will be photos of in-game experiences and spectacles that I’ve encountered.

Photo of Osiris: New Dawn

Newly released, “Osiris: New Dawn” is a basic survival game to those who are familiar with games such as “Rust” and “ARK”. As Osiris is an Early Access game (publicly released, but still in development) it holds very little to its core as a game, but once fleshed out can be seen as a great exploration game for what it is. You play as an astronaut who crash lands on a planet called “Proteus” (which looks like Mars) and the goal is to try and go back up to space to your space station. It sounds easy, but the challenge comes from exploration, as you embark to collect a vast amount of resources to eventually build technology that will help you get off the planet. As it is only Early Access, I can’t wait to see how the game will turnout at the end of its development.

Photo of Alien: Isolation

Something different compared to Osiris, is “Alien: Isolation”, which is based off the 1979 film “Alien”. As Alien: Isolation focuses on survival, it is also a horror game. Instead of having the same concept as Osiris you are trying to stay away from a killer alien. Now this isn’t something that I would want to experience since people die in the game, but what mesmerizes me is the technology that is in the game. Even though it is entirely fictitious, it does allow me to wonder what kind of technology we will discover in the future. Discovery has always been an interest for me and space allows that to happen since we can’t just nonchalantly go to space whenever we want and go on a space trip. Alien: Isolation does not provide the exploration similarly to Osiris, but I can only appreciate the creativity that went into designing the technology that is used in the game.

Photo of No Man's Sky

Lastly, with this game being in controversy, No Man’s Sky has provided me with an experience that sadly I can’t refund, BUT it is a space exploration game. With great music and procedurally generated environments, No Man’s Sky allows me to explore a huge amount of planets (and although they are the same), it is cool to wonder that someday in the future this can become a huge possibility. With some minor space combat and a huge focus of gathering resources, it can appear boring to some, but it is an extremely relaxing activity to do.

With achieving my fantasy through video games, it allows me to think that the possibilities can be endless as to what can happen in space. Well as I discuss my dream and how I like to achieve it, what are your dreams that you are able to live out?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
