Another awards show has come and gone, but this time, I'm actually going to talk about it. Yep, I'm talking about the Emmy Awards. This is my first awards show review that I have written for this website. But rather than do something trite such as reviewing fashion, I am going to review some of the winners. I will be discussing whether I thought it was predictable or not, and then discuss if I am compelled to watch any of the shows that won.
Let's begin.
Of course, we got to start big. Drama series of the year goes to "Game of Thrones." I do watch this show, but I haven't caught up on all of the episodes yet (darn you, life). However, I thought that this was pretty predictable. GOT has been a major series for years now, and it will continue to be a symbol of drama long after it has ended. Just because it was predictable doesn't mean I'm not happy; the episodes I have watched were amazing, and I know enough about the episodes I haven't watched to know that they were well done.
Comedy series of the year went to "Veep." Again, I thought this was predictable. However, it is a show that I haven't watched. Will I watch the show? Maybe once it has ended. I prefer to binge-watch comedies once they've ended. Until then, it is a show I will politely pass.
Now, I'm going to hit the lead actors and actress in a drama series and comedy series. There were a lot of awards, you guys. As much as I would love to ramble on and on about winners, most of whom I have never heard of or for shows I don't watch, I feel like talking about these 4 winners really hit the crux of television today.
The winner for lead actor in a drama series was Rami Malek for "Mr. Robot." Now, this isn't a show I have seen, but it is a show I have heard a ton about. A lot of my friends watch the show, and I have seen tons of previews for it whenever I watch USA Network. It is a show that I do hope to get into, and I plan on catching up on it over winter break. I've heard only good things about the show, so to me, Malek's win is well-deserved.
The winner for lead actress in a drama series was Tatiana Maslany for "Orphan Black." Again, this isn't a show I have seen, but one I have heard about constantly. I understand that she portrays several characters on the show (from my understanding the show is about clones), so I feel like this was a long time coming. The show has been going on for a few years now, after all. I am also keen to watch this show.
The winner for a lead actress in a comedy series was Julia Louis-Dreyfus, an honor she has won 5 years in a row. As I have mentioned, with the success of "Veep," this was not surprising. But, this does give me even more reason to watch the show.
And finally, the winner for lead actor in a comedy series was Jeffrey Tambor for "Transparent." I haven't seen the show, but it does not seem like a comedy series to me, so this win stands out to me. Nonetheless, I have heard good things about both the show and Tambor, so Tambor's win wasn't surprising. Maybe I will watch the show in the future; it does seem to be a very moving series.
Until next time, Emmy awards
