Don't Leave For Vacay Without These 11 Things

Packing for vacation can easily become stressful. You have to make sure that you have everything you need, but your brain is likely already floating somewhere holding a fruity drink in the sun. Fear not, I have all of the things that you won/t think of that will take your vacation to the next level. Let's get packing.

1. A Yeti or off-brand Yeti

For those who may not know, a Yeti is a well-insulated cup that can keep your drink cool for literal hours. This is perfect to keep that fruity drink cool after a day in the sun. I got an off-brand one from Walmart for around $10 and it works just as good as the expensive ones.

2. Reusable straws

Especially if you're going somewhere near the ocean, bring a reusable straw. It can help keep your drink cool too and it keeps things environmentally friendly. This way when you're making eye contact with a turtle on the beach, you can do so in good conscience.

3. Snacks

You can never go wrong with snacks. Whether you're poolside or chilling in a hotel room, a good snack can make any experience better.

4. Sunscreen...and more sunscreen

Bring sunscreen. More than enough for the duration of your stay. Then add probably two more cans to that. I literally cannot stress the importance of bringing more sunscreen than you think you'll need. Ignore this step and you'll end up red and regretful.

5. Aloe

When you inevitably end up not putting on sunscreen like you should have, aloe will help soothe your sunburn. Put this in the fridge for a little extra cool relief.

6. Sunglasses

I'm not personally a sunglasses person, but I cannot stress how much better sunglasses made my vacation. Especially if you're going to be near water, the sun can be insufferable to look at. Take precautions.

7. Something to put wet things in

Don't let a wet swimsuit dampen your mood when traveling home. Take a plastic bag or something similar to separate the wet items from your other clothes so you don't have to end your wet fun long before the end of your trip.

8. Bug spray

Even if you aren't camping or going somewhere where you think you won't need bug spray, bring a can. Bugs will probably be out in the evening and depending on where you're doing, they might carry extra dangers. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

9. Hat

If you're like me and hats don't look good on you in any condition, rest in pieces. However, if you can pull it off, a hat can keep some of the sun out of your face and keep you from getting crispy.

10. Water bottle

A reusable water bottle can be a life saver at any point in time. You can save money on purchasing water and save the environment at the same time. You can also keep this around and ensure that you're properly hydrated even when you're away from home.

11. A good book

A good book can make any experience better. Bring one and enjoy it while you enjoy your vacation. If you need recommendations, look here.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
