Urban Dictionary: where the Internet goes to learn about slang. So what happens when you head to Urban Dictionary and search for non-slang terms? What happens when you look up the Urban Dictionary of your university, an Ivy League institution that was founded in 1701 and is older than the United States, the Internet, and especially Urban Dictionary? Hilarity ensues, that's what. As a Yale student, some of these ring so true that they hurt. Others make me wonder if I'm not getting the most out of my Yale experience. Apparently, I've been defining Yale all along, because here is how Urban Dictionary defines Yale.
Yes, we are the alma mater of the Bushes. Is that all that anyone knows about Yale? Since this is the top definition, I'm going with yes. Also, what is this about choking on a pretzel? Is this a premonition? Am I doomed?
This explains the whole "Yale thing" popularized in "American Psycho." I'd never actually seen cocaine until I went to Yale, so I'll take this one at face value. However, I've never heard anyone ever, not once, refer to cocaine as Yale. Maybe I'm hanging out with the wrong people.
Well, I can't completely dispel this Urban definition, since it seems one in every five people you meet on campus went to a private school I've only read about in books. Also, what is this about a full-sized book of drinking songs? I'm honestly not surprised.
New Haven is an urban slum? Not particularly. Also, we are totally better than Harvard. Do I look sad? No! That's because I go to Yale and not Harvard. And don't even get me started on Cornell. That exchange between Neville and James could definitely have gone down in my life though, let's be honest.
Is this where the one in four (maybe more?) statistic comes from? Is this why we are known as the gay Ivy? Are art schools considered "gay?" What about all the straight people at Yale? Are we just confused?
False. Simply false. First thing's first, Harvard sucks. Veritas sucks without the lux. Also, I didn't apply to Harvard, because I knew Yale was the place for me. They are very different places, and just because you got into both doesn't mean you would be happy at both. So there's. That's that.
