Longwood University

The time has finally come! The Upchurch University Center has officially opened! We have been waiting for this for such a long time and it is finally happening! Now that it is finally open and I have been inside, I can positively say that Longwood definitely did not disappoint with this one! The feedback of Upchurch has been overwhelmingly positive from not just me, but many other students here at Longwood.

The new dining options that are now available to us are even better than I had imagined. I, personally, don't really like Chinese food, but I have heard really great things about Panda Express. Farm Grill, the new burger place, is spot on. There are three options for meal exchange which is super exciting! I love being able to use swipes for something on campus other than DHall; let's be honest, DHall can get pretty boring. Au Bon Pain is also great! I love having a place to get coffee that isn't Starbucks. While Starbucks is a very popular coffee joint, I definitely prefer the coffee at ABP. I am so glad that there are now multiple places to get coffee.

The new dining options also make the dining hall less crowded, which is only one of many perks. Not only are the dining options great, but so are the study spaces. The study spaces are quite roomy and comfortable. They are a great alternative to the library especially if you're like me and don't like to study somewhere that's too quiet.

Upchurch is such a wonderful addition to campus! When I am there, I honestly don't even feel like I'm in little ole Farmville. I have heard many students say similar things. I am so thankful for such a great school that continuously tries to make campus a better place for everyone! Upchurch has been worth the wait.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
