College. It is a strange, but beautiful place.
By design, it is an eco-system for young "adults" to receive a higher education and become ready for the real world. The reality is you're putting thousands of people, aged ~18 to 25 within the same confined space for 8 months a year for ~4 years per person.
Within this time, these individuals cultivate their own way of life. Things that would not be socially acceptable almost anywhere else, but hey, "it's college."
Here are 10 unspoken rules most college students abide by:
1. It is acceptable to drink. A lot.
If you're in college, as long as you maintain your grades, no one cares if you have alcoholic tendencies. Just cut it out after you graduate
2. You can never really be under dressed for class.
Shorts, t-shirt, unbrushed hair in a bun? Same.
3. It is normal to sit alone in the caf.
Especially during breakfast, when it's way too early for human interaction.
4. Do NOT go off campus without inviting your car-less friends.
Not everyone has the luxury.
5. There is a barter system.
Everyone's broke, so instead of money, friends pay each other back by lending clothes, caf swipes, or car rides.
6. Do NOT voluntarily remind the prof about the assignment due on any given day.
Even though you did it - everyone else is keeping quiet for a reason and one day they will repay you when you're having a rough week.
7. Binge watching a TV show is just part of studying/sleep.
If you think about it, watching a whole year of a television show in one day is hella productive.
8. You're allowed to eat whatever you want, whenever you want.
WE ARE GROWING 20-YEAR-OLDS
9. Calling mom is actually a cool thing to do.
We all miss her.
10. "Dating" in college has its own, separate set of standards/rules.
Exactly.
