Life as a first year college student can be difficult. Harder classes, a new environment and new-found sense of independence can be overwhelming. Sometimes you try so hard for an assignment and you still don't do well on it.

I made this playlist on a day that I just felt like I couldn't shake the unmotivated blues.

If you're feeling the same way I did, turn on these songs, crank the volume, and dance like nobody's watching.

"I Wanna Get Better" - Bleachers

I didin't know I was broken 'til I wanted to change.

This one song inspired the making of this playlist. Its catchy beat just urges me to shake the bad vibes off of my chest and forget about all of the tasks at hand.

"Dog Days are Over" - Florence and the Machine

The dog days are over. The dog days are done. Can you hear the horses. Cause here they come.

There were day and even weeks this semester where I just felt like I couldn't catch a break. Whenever I saw light after a lot of darkness, I blared this song. The amount of times that I got a scratchy throat from singing this song is unmatched.

"Put Your Records On" - Corrine Rae Bailey

Just go ahead, let your hair down. You're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow.

A classic 'girl you got this' song. All of the bad food that I've eaten and the lack of sleep this semester has left me feeling not like myself. Corrine Rae Bailey assures me that I will find myself, even if it doesn't seem possible.

"This Will Be Our Year" - OK Go

And this will be our year, took a long time to come.

While this semester was not as smooth as I thought it would be this year not being rough made it even worse. I almost need 2019 to eceed my expectations. OK go says it best when it says this will be our year, took a long time to come.

"Carry On" - Fun.

When you're lost and alone, or you're sinking like a stone, carry on. May your past be the sound of your feet upon the ground.

An oldie but a goodie. This song always gives me hope no matter how many times I listen to it. I remember getting my first round of exams back and feeling a huge sense of defeat. However, I quickly picked myself up and decided that I will not let this failure define me, and that there were other chances to suceed.

"Everything's Okay" - Lenka

Keep giving me hope for a better day. Keep giving me love to find a way. Through this heaviness I feel. I just need someone to say, everything's okay.

On my days where I really just couldn't shake the bad vibes, I repeated this mantra as many times as I needed to make myself feel better. I think that by listening to this song made me realize that that's exactly why Lenka created it.

"Life Keeps Moving On" - Ben Rector

When you feel. That you've been done wrong. When you're sure you're world is coming down around you. Life keeps moving on.

I've always thought of myself as an optimist, but when bad things happen to me I'm a horrible pessimist. This song reminds me of a friend that I have that is a true optimist and lives by the title of this song. Life may suck really bad, but it still moves on

"Come Alive" - The Greatest Showman

Come alive, come alive, go and light your life let it burn so bright.

I have this whole album on CD and downloaded on my phone and I have zero shame. I have listened to this song an insane amount of times, and I never realized what it meant until I looked up the lyrics. It gave me the inspiration as a writer to be a light in someone's dark world.

"Unwritten" - Natasha Bedingfield

Staring at the blank page before you. Open up the dirty window. Let the sun illimuniate the words that you can not find. Reaching for something in the distance. So close you can almost taste it. Release your inhibitions.

The most sunshiny and carefree song of its time. Whenever I listen to it on a gloomy day I close my eyes and picture a happy spring day when everything is perfect. There is no way that you can listen to this song and not want to dance your heart out.

"Afterlife" - Ingrid Michaelson

We are. We are going to be alright. We got. We always got the fight in us.

I have been a tried and true fan of Ingrid's since her early days and this just reinterated that love. I later found that she wrote this song after losing her mother to cancer, and she wrote this for her fans that were struggling with similar obstacles. I've had to overcome some pretty hard things this year, and this song gives me so much hope.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.
