If you and your date are looking for something a bit different to do than binge-watching Netflix and stuffing your faces with your favorite junk foods this Friday night, (and it is totally OK if you aren't, because sometimes that night is just what you both need), take a look at some of the most unique restaurants that the many neighborhoods of San Diego have to offer.
1. Empire House
OK, who does not absolutely adore tater tots? At this unique and urban restaurant located in Hillcrest, not only can you select from their "tot pots," but you can also create your own Tot Pot and add whatever your heart desires. For example, avocado, a fried egg, some melted cheese and even artichoke hearts. It's heaven.
2. Saigon on Fifth
If you and your date are into trying something new, go ahead and check out Saigon on Fifth that is also located in Hillcrest. Their menu is extensive and has something for vegetarians, fish eaters and carnivores alike. I highly recommend the Saigon Love Boat.
3. Native Foods
Located off of Balboa Avenue, his one might not be for everyone, as it features only all-natural vegan food. However, this mock-meat style restaurant can end up being a hit, even for carnivores. I've witnessed many meat-lovers leave this restaurant very impressed by fake meat. Try and drag your meat-eating boyfriend to this place and show him that vegan food isn't all that bad.
4. The Prado at Balboa Park
Balboa Park is a great place for date night. You can either have a daytime picnic, explore the beautiful grounds and museum, or make a reservation at The Prado. With a gorgeous patio and delicious food, The Prado is an amazing place for you and your date to splurge this weekend.
5. Rita's
Rita's is an awesome dessert place to go to for date night. Rita's specialty is called "Gelati," which is Italian Ice featuring rich, creamy custard on top and on the bottom. It's something different as opposed to grabbing fro-yo at Yogurt Land, and it is definitely worth the try.
6. Crab Pub
Located just off of El Cajon and only about five minutes from the SDSU campus, you don't even need to fight through traffic for this tasty seafood joint. Crab Pub gives both you and your date a bib and a pair of gloves in order to conquer the massive amount of food you are about to devour straight out of a bag. Not only is it a fun bonding experience to pull apart your seafood, but it is delicious.
These are only a few of the unique, tasty places that San Diego has to offer us. Go out and take the time to explore this weekend and try something new with your significant other. Whether you head to North Park, Hillcrest, Balboa Park, or even Downtown, there's bound to be something that both of you will absolutely love.
