Learning about new cities/regions means a great deal to me, so I thought I would share a few with y’all! Here are five cities in Europe that are definitely worth the visit!
1. Champagne region, France
The famous bubbly wine comes from one place and one place only and that’s the famous region of Champagne, France. This region is known to produce about 200,000 million bottles of bubbly a year. Imagine their New Years Eve celebration! This is also a great place for wine lovers to visit and embrace the hundreds of wineries and champagne houses. You will find many luxurious hotels and restaurants, with impeccable views and exquisite dining. This beautiful wine region is only ninety kilometers from Paris. It is highly recommended to visit in July, just in time for the Champagne Route Festival.
2. Bavarian region, Germany
The Bavarian region has a great beer culture, and of course Oktoberfest is held here once a year. However, if you are to visit during any other time of the year, fear not, you are promised to not be bored or thirsty. There are more than one-sixth of the world’s breweries here including: Erdinger, Paulaner, and Hofbrauhaus. Throughout the region of Bavaria, there are festivals held every day during the year. Fasching, Germanys version of Carnival, Starkbierzeit, which is the celebration of the Bavarian culture and famous doppelbock brew, and of course the famous sixteen day Oktoberfest event. So, if you enjoy trying new brews, meeting new people and partying almost everyday of the year, be sure to give the Bavarian region a go!
3. Crete, Greece
Crete is among the first European region to have advanced civilization. It is the largest of the Greek Islands and home of the Minoan people. Crete has a tremendous amount of natural beauty from coastlines to snowcaps, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The activities are endless from hiking, canoeing, and all types of water sports. Lagoons and blue waters cover quiet beaches for a romantic getaway, such as, Falarsana, which is rated one of the best beaches in the Mediterranean! Dive into the culture and history of this Greek island by visiting their enchanting Monasteries, castles, and museums. Athens being about 109 miles north of Crete, it is another Greek city worth visiting. If you are interested in putting your feet in the sand, enjoying the sun and culture around you, then Crete is a great getaway vacation spot!
4. Sardinia, Italy
The Sardo dialect, which is similar to Latin, is spoken in medieval stone towns in Italy’s second largest island. The famous ‘Emerald Coast’ attracts yachts to come enjoy the quiet, yet beautifully clear blue waters. There are many rich cheeses and vineyards that are made here, so oftentimes, wine with supper is a must. For those who are a little more adventurous can embark on a 650-step hike down to Neptune’s Grotto, which is a cave of underground lakes. Italy’s best kept secret is only 112 miles from the Mainland, yet seem to be worlds apart at times.
5. Lugano, Switzerland
Lugano is located in Switzerland’s southernmost corner, however, people most often speak Italian, which gives it a unique Italian and Swiss charm. The cobblestone streets accent the ancient churches that surround this famous town. Lake Lugano offers great views, dining, and shopping. This small city is oftentimes overlooked, however, has so much to offer. Swiss living and the Italian lifestyle is how many natives describe this scenic destination and it fits to a tee!
