Dear Students of UC Davis,
Grads and undergrads, I have to have to tell you about this sushi restaurant in Davis that I feel like needs more attention. Now if any of you know me, you know that I consume sushi like a normal human consumes water. I spoil myself by going out to eat once or twice a week, and the restaurant that I always return to is Huku in east Davis, near Target. I feel like it's one of the most underrated places to eat because it's a bit of a hassle to drive, bike, or bus to just to eat. Every time I eat there (once a week) I never really see students, which is a bummer because that place is the bomb-dot-com.
Let me tell you a couple reasons why I love it there and why I always end up coming back:
1. For a Davis sushi restaurant they have the best service out of all the sushi restaurants I have attended (better than: Fuji, Davis Sushi, Sushi Unlimited, Zen Toro, and even Mikunis!)
2. Their sashimi and nigiri (aka raw fish) is always fresh! I literally watch them fillet a fish when I sit at the bar. It doesn't matter if it's at the beginning, middle, or end of the shift; I promise you their fish is fresh!
3. The plating that they do is on point! Huku doesn't skimp when it comes to presentation. They really do understand the meaning behind the saying, "You first eat with your eyes."
4. If you sit at the sushi bar the chefs will always hook you up! The last time I was there, the chef was super interactive and sent out an appetizer, drinks, and extra pieces of sashimi on the house. If you know anything about sushi you know that it could get really expensive and you should take whatever is given; at least that is what my inner "college student budget" was thinking.
5. Best of all, since they have been open they have always had coupons available. If you check the "Little Green Machine" coupon books or online, Huku has $20 off. They expire every quarter but since they have been open, they've updated their coupons. So here's a tip: Print a page out at home or rip the page out of the coupon book and always keep it in your car! You never know when you're heading east and want a bit of the freshest sushi; at least, that is what I always do!
This could've been a Yelp review, but I love this restaurant too much! Thought I would share my love to the rest of my homies. Please go check them out next time you go out and eat; you will be pleased, and if you do, message me how your experience went.
Always, Vi: The sushi monster
