Under the Golden Sky

A song I wrote a year ago after an August thunderstorm

Last year, I wrote this song when I witnessed a thunderstorm after a humid day. One thing that made it distinct, was its beautiful yellow sky. Usually, the clouds would be a dark grey and would cover the sun. I have also witnessed showers that happened while the sun was shining. But this event is what inspired me to write a poem about it. I hope you like it.

Under the golden sky
The storm was raging,
As the thunder cracked
And the lightning glowed
Outside my window
The rain was pouring
We're taught to love the sun
But I stood in awe

The drops beat on
Against the windowpane
Playing the drums they played
For a million years
It happened under the golden clouds
As the sun was setting down

Under the golden sky
The storm raged and poured
The symphonies that played
Always rose and fell
Under the golden sky
The thunder boomed so loud
I can hear them sound
Through the window glass

Under the golden sky
Stories under the roof
Reading a fantasy
Of horses from the sea
Out of the waves they come
Each November,
And people race them along the beach

The rain went on
The thunder roared
And I could not ignore
The lightning's flash
So I put my fantasies down
And looked beyond
No longer closing my eyes

Under the golden sky
Stories under the roof
Too soon to read them
Pages left unread
Under the golden sky
I watched the storm above
Cannons within the clouds
From a summer day.

In an August day
In the beating blue,
Within the boiling heat
I could not breathe out there.
My breaths all felt the same,
The pressure was rising high,
So the storm came,
The skies let it all go.

As the sun was setting down....

Under the golden sky
The storm raged and poured
The symphonies that played
Always rose and fell
Under the golden sky
Stories under the roof
Too soon to read them.
Pages left unread.

Under the golden sky
The thunder boomed so loud
I could hear them sound through the window glass
Under the golden sky
I watched the storm above
Cannons within the clouds
From a summer day.

From a summer day,
Under the golden sky
The sun was setting down,
Under the golden sky.

Pages left unread
Of horses from the sea
In an early August day,
Under the golden sky.

I remember how exciting summer was when I was a kid. I would just be eagerly waiting for school to end so that I could fly to some exotic location with my family for the summer. Or hang out with my friends every day. Or just lay around in bed or read, paint, draw, basically do whatever.

When we think of events that have transpired in the US over the last few years, a lot of it ends up in spotlighting the division in the country. However, things across the pond seem to be no better - at least when it comes to sports. Last week, Real Madrid - arguably the richest sports franchise in the world, had one of their Brazilian strikers subject to vicious racist attacks in Valencia. The player, Vini Jr posted this example video in his Insta account:
