4 Absolutely Crazy Moments I've Witnessed In New York City

1. I was near Bryant Park going to meet a friend and I hear someone singing. I start to walk towards the sound because they were very off-key and they sounded like fun. As I got closer, I saw an old man holding a microphone while standing in a fountain. This man was about seventy years old and he was wearing a neon yellow crop top and white cargo pants. He had a black guitar strapped around him which he seemed to be used for decoration. He had a beer belly that shook every time he danced. Now, I've depicted what this man looked like - let's talk about what he sounded like. He was using a microphone and singing "That's the way uh-huh uh-huh I like it uh-huh-uh-huh". He did not have the right pitch or rhythm at all but there was something even worse. The microphone he was using would alter his voice to sound like a little girl.

I just want to say this again. Imagine a seventy-year-old man singing with a little girl's voice while dancing in a fountain in a crop top and cargo pants.

2. I was walking down fifth avenue with my mom and I was waiting at a cross light. All of a sudden I heard screaming and a car was driving about 80mph down a side street and hit a biker right in front of my mom and me. Somehow the man survived- and he was very angry. This man obviously had broken his leg and it was turned the wrong way but he managed to get on his feet, pick his bike up, and walk over to the car that was speeding. The man driving got out of the car to yell at the biker, but the biker threw his bike at the man and jumped on top. They were both screaming and everyone was taking videos because it was such a crazy event.

Moral of the story: do not go down the fifth avenue and hit a biker because an angry man with a broken leg will throw his bike at you and jump on top of you and the bike.

3. I was walking into Macy's and saw a woman that had a computer bag on my shoulder that would clip in the back. As she was going through the revolving doors, a man unclipped her computer bag from the back and stole her bag. She had to run around in a circle but she was so in shock that she missed the exit twice and ended up running around in circles. She ran around three times before running out of the doors and trying to catch the man. She was struggling to run because she was so dizzy that she ended up giving up halfway down the block and walked into a Starbucks.

So now you know- when in NYC, do not wear a bag with a clip because you will get dizzy trying to run after a smooth criminal.

4. For those of you that don't know, the John Lennon Memorial in Central Park is where a lot of "colorful" and "crazy" homeless people like to hang out. A lot of them show their talents by playing music or drawing or even making specialized poems. It was a very hot summer day and I was walking home and decided to take a seat to let myself breathe. I was on my phone when a rugged homeless-looking man came up to me. He sat down on the floor in front of me and said "Hello, I drew you a picture. I loved your hair so I thought it would be a nice picture". I did not know what to say so all I said was "Oh my goodness thank you! How much is it?" He said, "For you, it is free. But do not look at it until you get home". So I said okay and started to walk home with this new gift. Honestly, I looked at it before I got home. I opened up the piece of paper and there was a picture of a girl that was colored in green with black straight hair and the word "hummus" on top. I do not have green skin and I have red hair. What did he see? And why is the word Hummus above it?

Just so you know, the memorial is beautiful and some of the artists there are amazing, but some are also crazy.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
