I've officially finished my third round of career showcase at UF. This is one of the worst weeks of the year because stress levels are high and people are running around all over the place trying to get interviews, internships and jobs. Sometimes, you can literally feel the tension in the buildings on campus. After three years of this, I've come up with some basic things that happen to all of us on that lovely Fall Tuesday.
1. Have at least one mental breakdown
I definitely had more than one mental breakdown this week, but fortunately I have good friends and a wonderful God who always puts me back on track and takes away my worries.
2. Completely forget your elevator pitch
I love walking up to a recruiter and having to totally wing it.
3. Lose at least one item at some point during the week
I walked out of the diversity mixer without my portfolio. How this happened I have absolutely no idea, thankfully I got it back!
4. Set 17 reminders to print your resume
I've definitely forgotten to do this so I have to constantly remind myself on my phone. Resumes are essential and it is so important to make sure you have at least 10 copies.
5. Go over your resume a million times to make sure everything is spelled correctly
I am usually glued to my computer for a few days making sure everything is spelled correctly and my resume looks the best it can.
6. Soak your feet in ice because your feet hurt after standing for hours in heels
I have never felt so much pain until Monday night. I was wearing pointed heels for three hours and I couldn't move my feet for a few hours.
7. Wake up ridiculously early
I've been running on a lot of caffeine these past few days so I could be a normal human being.
8. Run around trying to find the company booths
The worst thing about showcase is that although there are so many companies, the tables are so hard to find. It is always good to know the table numbers in advance.
9. Not know what you're doing with your life
I definitely had this moment last week. I was worried about even being able to find a job/internship. Luckily I calmed myself downed and tried to stop stressing!
10. Stress about careers and then be completely mellow
I think this picture pretty much sums up my feelings about this week in Gainesville.
