Dayton, Ohio. To most people, it may just seem like your average place. But, to UD students, it’s so much more. Even though we love the idea of finals being over and getting to see our families, we can’t help but wish the year hadn’t gone by so fast. So, without further ado, here are 15 things we’ll definitely miss about our amazing school until we come back in August!

1. Being within walking distance of your friends.

This luxury only comes in college. Soon, we’ll have to drive again whenever we want to go somewhere. Ugh, so much work.

2. And having fun with them on the weekends.

Those two days a week when we take a break from schoolwork are the best days. Do we really have to wait all summer before we do it again?

3. Your dorm room/apartment/house.

Actually, in August, someone else will have your place! So, it’s super important to hold on to the memories you made here.

4. The RecPlex (and the motivation it gave us).

Without the RecPlex, I surely would have gained the Freshman 15. No gym will be as close, not to mention free, over the summer…so might as well just watch Netflix, right?

5. The famous basketball games.

From our 2014 Elite 8 run, to the sellout crowds at every game, nothing beats UD basketball. Oh, and did I mention that Elite 8 run?

6. Dr. Dan.

Do you have to leave us forever?

7. Nancy from Marycrest.

She always manages to put a smile on our faces, even on our worst days. Nancy, if you’re reading this…yes, that will be on my flex, and you have a nice day, too!

8. Brown Street and all its glory.

If you’re running a little short on flex money, you can always turn to the dozens of options on Brown. Panera without your best friends just won’t be the same!

9. Taking trips up to Oregon District.

Next time you’re there, make sure to take one of the free trees, and have lots of free food samples!

10. Monster cookies!

Enough said.

11. Serenity Pines.

If you haven’t been to this garden, please, go take a look. It’s one of the most peaceful places on campus, and I wish I could bring it home with me.

12. Taking chapel pictures.

No Instagram picture is ever complete without its blue dome.

13. Running through the fountain.

It’s like a rite of passage for all the new freshman on campus. You’ll be soaking wet and freezing, but that doesn’t mean you won’t miss it!

14. The sunsets.

Don’t get me wrong, sunsets are beautiful anywhere … but, the ones here are the most beaUDiful.

15. And, of course, the community.

If you don’t hear a student talk about community when you're on campus, then you’re at the wrong school. What I’ll miss most for the next few months is knowing that, here, I’ll always be greeted with a friendly smile and an open door.

Leaving for the summer may be hard, but that will make coming back even sweeter! See you in the fall, Flyers!

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
