College is a new and exciting experience. However, there is the challenge of learning to live with different types of people. These are just some of the types that you will experience while living in a dorm freshman year.

1. Musicians

These are the music majors. Always nice and friendly, but hardly around. The only time they alert you to their presence is when they’re practicing their musical instrument when you’re trying to nap.

2. Drug dealers

Yes, they exist in every college dorm and on every floor. They operate under stealth-like circumstances, but everyone knows what sort of business they’re conducting. And after a few months, you won’t even blink twice over the smells emanating from their room. P.S. Febreeze only makes it worse.

3. The lovers

This is the floor’s resident couple. They are super nice and sweet, but you eye them with envy every time they pass you while going to one of their rooms. Other days you wish you didn’t live on the other side of that wall.

4. The partiers

These people treat every day like it’s the weekend. The pregaming in the dorms is alright, as long as they’re mostly quiet while you’re trying to get work done. The mess in the communal bathroom at 4 a.m. is less than pleasant on most nights.

5. Music aficionados

The music efficanatos are who everyone wishes they had living on their floor. Even when the floor is at its quietest you can always hear music coming from their room. You learn some new artists and it’s great music to listen to while studying.

6. Ghosts

The Ghosts are the people you completely forgot live on your floor. You rarely see them and when you do it’s at odd hours of the day. You only exchange quick smiles when you pass them in the hall and you wonder where they spend all their time.

7. Your friends

These are the people you meet and instantly hit it off with. You spend your weekends with them and have shared so many laughs and jokes. These people make college what it’s all about.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
