As a college student, I am all about organization and productivity. I love tackling the day ahead of me. I am a proud early riser and list maker, and I am annoyingly proactive. However, once that lazy Sunday rolls around, I am all about sleeping in, overdosing on breakfast foods, and parking it on the couch for some serious binge watching.
Everything comes to a restful crashing halt for me on Sundays, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I need it, my body needs it, and my overall well-being needs it. My go-to form of rest is either my favorite TV shows or my favorite movies. I especially love when the people I hold near and dear to my heart join me so I get to share my favorite cinematic masterpieces with them, and if they're lucky, share my breakfast foods.
Sharing is caring, so I have decided to share these masterpieces with you as well! Grab your movie jammies and the biggest cinnamon rolls you can find because this list of my go-to feel-good movies and shows should last you at least one full weekend (several weekends if you pace yourself)!!!
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013)
Wow and wow. This movie fills my heart to the brim and makes me cry without fail! I obviously don't want to give away too much, but this film is all about Walter Mitty who works for Time magazine and ends up traveling the world in efforts to make the last copy of the magazine have the best cover the company has ever seen. It's super cute, has a tiny love story, and if you have even the slightest bit of wanderlust, this movie will tickle your feet!
Gilmore Girls (2000) (Also A Year in The Life, 2016)
The Perks of Being A Wallflower (2012)
This film is a 50-50 happy-sad experience. Charlie is a wallflower starting high school after his best friend committed suicide, and he is lost, struggling, and looking for friends. This is a journey about him finding his people as well as himself, and it will leave you feeling simply infinite.
The Fault in Our Stars (2014)
If you would like to have your heart ripped directly ripped out of your chest, boy is this the movie for you! Not only does the romantic aspect of this movie call for streams of tears running down your cheeks, but the best friend aspect of this movie will get the waterworks flowing as well.
Hazel Grace has cancer, and so does her flawless lover Augustus. I really don't have to say much more since the fact that his name is Augustus tells you right from the get-go he's going to steal your heart. John Green has done it again people. Fills the heart and breaks it all at once.
Atypical (2017)
This TV show is a Netflix original, and no shame, I watched it in one day (while I was moved into college but classes hadn't started yet, so what else was I going to do?!?). The main character of this show is a senior in high school named Sam who is autistic, and decides he wants to be in a relationship for the first time.
The show is rather tender and emotional, but is still pretty humorous with some major plot twists, and the jury is still out on whether or not there is going to be a second season or not. 10/10 would recommend bingeing this one.
Don't Think Twice (2016)
If we are being honest, I'm not really sure why I think this is a feel-good movie. It is kind of sad. This movie is about a group of stand up comedians trying to make it big together, so naturally, it's funny just because the main characters are comedians. However, it has it's tear-jerking moments.
I think what gets me about this movie is the fact that they give up a lot of stuff to pursue their dreams and passions even though there are a lot of things stacked against them. It takes a lot of guts to go after what you want with reckless abandon and I think this film does a good job of displaying that.
Elf (2003)
Merry. Stinking. Christmas. The best way to spread Christmas cheer for me personally is to watch the movie Elf 47 times each December. I. love. this. movie. It is honestly a holiday classic. It's hilarious, family friendly, and has the one and only Zooey Deschanel in it, a stinking babe. What more could you ask for??
The Hunger Games Trilogy (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015)
Not necessarily a feel-good type of marathon, but these movies, more importantly, these books, are pure genius. They are so detail-oriented and I thoroughly enjoy watching it all play out on the screen.
The plot is a unique story with unique characters that makes several valid points about the society we live in and the damage exploited power can do. Such a good watch and well worth your time.
Pitch Perfect (2012) and Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) (and probably Pitch Perfect 3, 2017, unless something awful happens)
Let's be honest, these films are hilarious. They seem to make a grand appearance almost every single time my best friend and I have a sleepover, and we have amazing plans to attend the midnight premier of the third one coming out on December 22nd this year! They are just pure, good and bad humor. Nothing tense, you're just laughing your head off. These movies are a good time. Preferred method of consumption involves ice cream.
