True Tales of A Night Owl

There are two kinds of people in this world: morning people and night people. If you are anything like me, you are probably reading this article in the middle of the night when you should be finishing the lab report you have due tomorrow (whoops, caught you). If that’s you and you’re a night person like I am, then look no further. This article is for you.

I have always been one to go bed late every night regardless of how early I have to get up in the morning. For some reason I thrive when the sun goes down and I know my nocturnal friends understand what that is like. These 19 struggles explain what it’s like to be a night owl.

  1. Every night we stay up late, we never understand how it’s actually that late already. I swear it was only 9 the last time I looked at the clock and now it’s somehow 1 a.m.?
  2. Binge watching Netflix is actually dangerous for us. It’s easy to justify watching one more episode, even in the early hours of the morning. Another episode of Friends can’t do that much damage when it’s already 3 am.
  3. It’s not procrastination, our brains just work better at night, right? At least that’s what we tell ourselves when we’re starting our homework the night before it’s due.
  4. But on the plus side, when we do need to cram for a test we have the next day, we can stay up for as long as it takes without a problem.
  5. People tell us, “maybe you wouldn’t be so tired if you went to bed earlier”. They don’t understand that’s it not that simple. Going to bed early is a part of a lifestyle we know nothing about.
  6. Mornings are the absolute worst part of the day and they are impossible for us.
  7. Coffee. So much coffee.
  8. 8 a.m.’s are just not happening. We can possibly make it to 9 a.m.’s, but even that is too early.
  9. We’re all a little embarrassed to admit that we’ve slept through an afternoon class.
  10. We’re really good at organizing our entire life at 2 am.
  11. Do not touch us in the morning. Do not look at us in the morning. Chances are we’ve only slept for a few hours and aren’t ready to accept the fact that we’re out of bed yet.
  12. We set 5 alarms just to get out of bed in the morning.
  13. And still sleep through them.
  14. Everyone knows that if they need something in the middle of the night, you’ll be there to help.
  15. You consider getting in bed at midnight “early”.
  16. We don’t understand why things close so early, especially restaurants. We’re forever wishing more places to eat were open when we’re craving our favorite food for a late night snack.
  17. We love other night owls that keep us company when everyone else is asleep.
  18. And we also love the peaceful nights we can enjoy alone.
  19. But our favorite days are when we can stay up as late as we want, and sleep as late as we want the next day too.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
