As if everyone is not already aware, Saint Joe's was literally in the middle of the chaos that was the World Meeting of Families and the visit of Pope Francis. Naturally, SJU turned into a rumor mill and no one knew exactly what was happening in regard to the visit, except for the fact that the school was remaining open...which made total sense apparently. Here are the top 5 best things overheard at SJU this week in regard to Pope Francis visiting our city and basically our campus.
1. McShain Residents are not permitted to go to Campion for the weekend.
The McShain bridge is closed and so is City Ave, so sorry freshmen who live in McShain you just don't get to eat for the weekend...Hopefully you stocked up on Easy Mac and Hot Pockets.
2. Snipers are going to be put in the Barbelin bell tower.
Very unsure if this was a rumor or true. If it's true, I can't decide if that is awesome or terrifying.
3. The Pope will be attending a party at the Mansion.
By far the most realistic...
4. Pope Francis will be stopping by Larry's for a cheesesteak.
He has nothing important to do while he is in Philadelphia and actually has tons of free time, so why would he not want to eat Larry's while staying here? He will probably stop by on his way home from the Mansion.
5. Pope Francis is actually staying at the Jesuit Residence on campus.
Similarly to number 2, not completely sure about this one. Maybe the Seminary was all just a distraction? If the Pope is staying in the middle of campus, though, that is pretty awesome.
It is safe to say that the Papal visit has caused some craziness throughout campus and the city of Philadelphia. Despite the chaos, at the end of the day, not everyone can say the Pope drove through their college campus...Can you put that on a resume?
