South Dakota may seem like a desolate state with nothing besides farmland and small towns, but it definitely has its charms. It also teaches you some tough lessons when it comes to being outdoors surrounded by dangerous wildlife and balmy temperatures. These are some lessons I learned during my trip to South Dakota this past summer.
1. Always wear closed shoes when walking through tall grass.
Cacti can be found in many dry places in South Dakota. So stay prepared with thick, closed shoes.
2. Always bring a flashlight and charged cell phone when night fishing.
South Dakota can be a sketchy place at night with the rattlesnakes and the bears. Be sure to bring a flashlight and a charged cell phone when venturing out at night.
3. Get up early to see the sunrise at least once.
No matter where you are in South Dakota, the sunrises are incredible. So, get out there and see them!
4. Be sure to book your cabins way in advance.
Believe it or not, South Dakota is a popular vacation destination. Due to this, campgrounds can book up far in advance. So, be sure to book yours right away.
5. Make sure the AC works in your car.
South Dakota can be very warm in the summer even though it is farther north. Make sure the AC works in your car, and also be sure to book cabins with AC included.
