Here's Why Celebrities Give Tribute To Their Mothers

Mother’s day celebrates moms who provide life and taught us how to live. The bond between a mother and her child is special, some claim the bond is forged through nine months of labor while others argue mother’s maternal instinct. The relationship adapts and changes as children grow older, but the dependence upon the mother remains. Since birth children rely on, learn from and confide in their mother’s. Celebrities notably show love, admiration and appreciation to their mother.

Many famous people, musicians particularly, give credit to their moms for their success. Many hip hop artists while holding true to a hard, tough, and careful persona show their love and devotion for their mothers thru music. Tupac in Dear Mama raps about his relationship with his mother and the impact she made raising him and his sister alone, although he voices his childhood frustration he speaks “You are appreciated”. New Jersey rapper Joe Budden in his song Momma Said details a conversation with his mother, the track shows the influence she has on the 35 year old artist. Kanye West famously has referenced the love for his mother in his songs, most notably Hey Mama. Hip hop artists may have the easier platform of rap but they are not alone. Famous musical groups Boyz 2 Men, A Song for Mama, Spice Girls, Mama, and Backstreet Boys, A Perfect Fan, all show love toward moms with song.

Actors are known to thank mom while giving their Oscar award acceptance speech. Philip Seymour Hoffman, during his 2005 Oscar acceptance speech, claimed his success to his single mother. Halle Berry in her 2001 speech accredited her strength to her mother, who gave her reason to dream. Matthew McConaughey, in his 2014 acceptance speech, thanked his mother for teaching him and his brothers to respect themselves and others.

Among celebrities, athletes are known for showing appreciation to their moms after they receive their payday. After receiving the first contract, many athletes claim that their first investment will be a house for mama. Mothers do not give love, provide, and support their children for the eventual hope of a million dollar house or a new car. The reward a mother desires can not be judged by zeros but by the smiles of their child.

The constant worry for the safety and success of their child is a reminder that a mother’s love is unique, but who is to worry about mothers? Children grow up and move out into the world, just as their mother taught them. Single mothers, once thought down upon is now becoming the norm, 83% of single parent families are mothers. In these households the mother has to be a jack of all trades, a loving mother, strict parent, adviser, friend, and sometimes for young men a father figure. I can attest to this, I grew up for a few brief years in a single parent household. My mother raised my sister and I, teaching us to be respectful, caring and aware. My sister and I would watch as my mom would come home from work then run a household and take care of us. We learned to be strong willed and ambitious just by watching her everyday. To this day if I need advice about life or an article I am writing I turn to her. I thank who I am today and who I will become on the people I have encountered and shaped me. I appreciate my mother for helping me to grow into the person I am and will always be thankful for what she has done for me.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
