To my best friend:
You were more than a pet, a valued member of my family
you entered our hearts without permission and so amicably.
I was only seven when you entered our lives,
your presence shone like a bright spot in dark skies.
Hard to love- you were not,
you embodied joy, excitement, and cherished us with every spot.
I could always count on your wet kisses to dry my tears,
your unconditional love never faded over the years.
Somehow I miss coming home to chewed up shoes,
because it meant you were there and ready to play- leaving me cues.
The sight of your worn and smelly collar now makes my heart sting.
I hope you're trotting around in heaven wearing that annoying Christmas one with the bells that ring.
Your wet kisses, smelly breath, and fluffy ears
are the cornerstones of my unforgettable childhood years.
How can such a small animal make such a large impact on a family of five?
It must be your smiling face, cuddles and mischevious ways that kept our home so live.
You have a permanent place in our family tree,
forever in our hearts, your wagging little tail will be.
Love,
Your family
