"The best gift you could have given her was a lifetime of adventure..."
-- Lewis Carroll, "Alice in Wonderland"
Traveling the world with the one you love, what could be better? If you ask many people, they would say that traveling with your significant other at a young age can be tricky territory. The idea that two young people can stay together happily and take a vacation is one that many question and discourage. “That’s a big commitment,” or “You have to stay together until then,” are a few comments I’ve heard. Well duh. Having a serious relationship is a commitment. Wanting to spend your time with someone is a commitment. That’s what a relationship is and if you’re not committed then what are you even doing? Of course we will be together. I don’t know about you, but I don’t get into relationships with the idea that we won’t be together by a certain point. You stay in a relationship with the intention of pursuing a lifetime of happiness, right? Or am I the one completely off my rocker? Well, here are the top five reasons why traveling young and in love is totally awesome.
1. You get to see all sorts of cool places with your best friend.
Because who doesn't want to take cute pictures like this?
The opportunity to explore the world doesn’t come around every day. It is important to take advantage of any opportunity you have to adventure somewhere new. Other countries, cultures and traditions have so much diversity and so many new experiences to offer us and you get to meet all of these with your best friend right by your side. This gives you someone to share all of these awesome times and someone to go through every adventure with.
2. Non-stop laughter and happiness.
Having company is something we often take for granted and is something that is greatly appreciated. Being able to share those smiles, the laughs, the excitement all with another person who is important to you, makes the experience that much more meaningful.
3. Memories that will last a lifetime.
The memories made are ones that you can recall for the rest of your life. Many people often put off traveling saying, “Oh I’ll do it when I retire or when I have more money,” but there is no better time than the present! Live with no regrets. Be able to look back fondly on the memories made, the places you saw and adventures to stay with you forever.
4. Get out of your comfort zone.
Take a risk! Don’t stick with what is safe, easy and convenient. Go some place you’ve only ever dreamed of. Here is where you really discover things about yourself and your significant other that can enrich your life and your relationship. You have to meet new people, eat strange foods and sleep somewhere that you’ve never seen before. Although this may be a push into the uncomfortable, it will ultimately boost your quality of life and will give you a new sense of self that you can take into the rest of your daily life.
5. Gain a different perspective.
Many people live very different lives from our own and it is so important to be able to see and immerse ourselves into cultures and traditions that may be different. Experiencing different cultures can influence us. They can give us perspective on why different cultures have certain practices and they allow us to fully appreciate other societies on a genuine and personal level. Seeing life from a different angle can transform the way we live.
I am one of the lucky ones that is able to experience this first hand and I absolutely cannot wait to embark on this adventure with someone by my side. The world has so much to offer us – tastes to try, noises to hear, places to see, so why not share that with a special someone while you’re young and in love.
