My Transition To 'A New Normal' After Moving To Las Vegas

Moving from one place to another is never easy.

It’ll be three years in August since I’ve left my home state of New York and moved to Las Vegas. The number one question I receive, even today, is: “Why Vegas?”

I didn’t choose Vegas. Vegas kind of chose me. Cliché, I know, but it is as true as it gets.

Close to 3,000 miles away from where I’d been my entire life, I did not know what to expect. I’ve always been one to overthink everything, and I like to know what my next moves are going to be. So moving across the country was quite frightening.

I miss everything about New York – the food, corner stores, culture, colors, vibe, diversity, convenience of traveling, views, and everything else in between. But change is necessary.

Sometimes life puts you in uncomfortable situations or unfamiliar territory that will make you question everything—that will drive you insane, trust me. Perhaps you need to find ways to make it work and allow the experience to let you grow and become wiser. You may not be able to control the twists and turns life, but you can control your attitude. People always say "be positive," but that's easier said than done. But once you speak it into the universe, it becomes a part of your lifestyle. I'm still working on it.

When I first moved, I paid more attention to the negative, but with much guidance from my sister, I am learning to embrace this new life. It's still a struggle, but I am learning. I am grateful for the many doors that have opened, that may not have been possible in New York.

So much will be happening for me in 2017, and I am ready.

Life has an interesting way of working itself out, but you must trust the process.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
