The Movies I Am Excited To See In 2017

Over Thanksgiving break, a time where I returned to my home and spend time with my family, I had time to relax from the pressures of school. When I was not spending time with my family, I was with my friends just hanging out without a care. During one such get together, it was decided that we would all go out and see Dr. Strange -which was amazing and I highly recommend seeing- and we saw preview for several movies coming out in 2017 that I would kill to see. So, in wake of a rather depressing year -at least for me- I compiled a list of movies that I am looking forward to.

#10: Jumanji

Now, I am definitely looking forward to this slice of nostalgia. I remember watching the original Jumanji with Robin Williams staring. I found it funny, enthralling, and any other similar word. I was laughing almost the entire way through, even the intense and slightly scary -for a five year old- scenes. The concept itself was enough to draw me in so I am anxious and excited to see it how the directors not only interpreted the movie, but execute it as well.

#9: Thor Ragnarock

I'm not going to lie. I was never a huge fan of the previous Thor movies. I liked them, don't get me wrong, but I wasn't as in to them as I was about the other Marvel movies. That being said, I am looking forward to this one if only for the inclusion of the Sorcerer Supreme, Dr. Strange himself being a potential character in the new movie. I am excited to see how this movie plays out.

#8: Justice League

Now I am a Marvel fan, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy a good DC film. I have seen Man of Steel, I've seen Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman is coming out, all the pieces are there, now it's time for them all to come together into what will hopefully be an action packed film. This is DC's answer to Marvel's The Avengers and I have high hopes of what this movie can be.

#7: Wonder Woman

Now, the reason this is before Justice League is because I saw the trailer while I was in the theater to watch Dr. Strange and, pardon my language, but is looked bad ass. Wonder Woman was one of the first DC superheroes that I ever saw, TV show or other wise. She was a badass then and she is defienately one now and I can't wait to see how she is portrayed in the upcoming movie.

#6: Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2

I loved the first movie. It was hilarious, it was entertaining, and it kept my attention throughout the entire movie -something that most movies are not and have not been able to do. In other words, I loved it and I can't wait to see how things will progress, especially with all the Marvel lore that is coming into play. I won't say anymore than that as I would mostly make this another page, and spoil almost every Marvel movie, but I am on the edge of my seat in anticipation.

#5: Transformers the Last Knight

Say what you will, I love the Transformers movies. I hear people saying how it's more action than plot or how the story's cliché, but I don't care. The movies are incredible, the story's incredible, and the action scenes are incredible. People bagged on the last one as poor quality in terms of story, but there is one thing you must remember. Optimus rode atop of Grimlock. Best. Scene. Ever. That being said, I can hardly wait to see what this franchise has in store for us.

#4: Kong: Skull Island

No before you all start saying that this is just another remake of an already overused franchise, but I disagree. From what I saw in the trailer, this has a lot more depth to it then a simple oversized gorilla tearing through the city -though I am fairly certain that will happen at some point. The focus of this movie appears to be on the island itself and the monsters that inhabit it, and I don't just mean Kong. I won't say anymore than that, but I can assure you, this movie will be an experience to anyone that sees it.

#3: Star Wars Episode VIII

I think we all knew that this movie would make it on the list. I grew up with the Star Wars franchise and I loved each movie, no matter the length. While I did like the most recent Star Wars, there was a bit of the story that I found either lacking or dragging. I loved the movie, don't get me wrong, but I didn't like all of it. This is why this movie isn't higher up on my list. Regardless, I can't wait for this movie to come to theaters.

#2: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

I have always loved pirates -the ones in movies anyway. The idea of men and women going out, defying the government, finding, and sometimes stealing, treasure, and sailing over the open sea have always appealed to me and no other pirate has stood out as much as Captain Jack Sparrow. He is, by far, the most entertaining, daring, and funny pirate I have ever seen, making the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise one of my favorites. With this movie, from the trail and the cover I can infer that we, the audience, will gain a little more insight on Sparrow's backstory. We have received bits and pieces of who he is with tales of his exploits, but we never really understand his origins. It is my hope that this movie explains some of that.

#1 Power Rangers

That's right. The movie that I am most looking forward to is Power Rangers. For me growing up, the Power Rangers franchise was a constant, even more than the Star Wars franchise. I loved watching the old school rangers jumping and flipping around, fighting monsters and the forces of evil. I even enjoyed watching them evolve into different, yet connected, franchises -though I have to say that I am not a huge fan of the more recent series. Though, out of all of them, Mighty Morphin has been my favorite and I am excited to see how this reboot will portray my childhood icons.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
