Every year the time comes when pumpkins are sold and people begin to dress up as their favorite characters. The temperature begins to drop as the leaves begin to fall and create a beautiful array of warm, vibrant colors. This excitement creates a sort of energy that draws people to nature and closer together for the holiday festivities. What are a few of your favorite things about fall?

1. Pumpkin Everything

From Pumpkin Spice Lattes to Pumpkin Spice OREOS, there is no doubt that one of the best things about fall is the amazing food and drink choices that are pumpkin flavored. Now, I don’t know about you, but I am in love with these pumpkin spice Oreos. They're amazing!

2. Cute Clothes

Riding boots, oversized sweaters, flannels, and leggings are some of my favorite things when it comes to fall. Putting together cute outfits is very easy during fall because you can just roll out of bed, throw on a sweater or flannel with some leggings, and add a pair of boots. It will look like you took some time to get dressed in the morning. Plus, you can throw your hair up into a messy bun or ponytail and still look put together.

3. The Amazing Weather

Down in south Texas, it doesn’t get extremely cold, but the weather is still amazing and refreshing.

4. Football Season

From flag football to pro football, a fall favorite is definitely the start of football season. Fans across the country paint their faces and wear their jerseys proudly in support of their favorite team- some even color their hair.

5. Halloween

Everybody knows that the best part about Halloween is the overwhelming amount of candy you collect and dressing up! Halloween can be scary and at the same time, it is filled with goblins, ghosts, candy apples, and candy corn.

6. Thanksgiving Day

Every Thanksgiving I curl up on the couch and watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade while my pumpkin French toast bakes in the oven and fills the house with the delicious smell of pumpkin spice. The feast during Thanksgiving is like an unlimited buffet full of turkey, cornbread dressing, and amazing sweets.

7. Daylight Savings Time

Who doesn’t like an extra hour of sleep? I know I do! During the first week of November, everyone across the world receives an extra hour of sleep, this year daylight savings time is on November first.

8. Christmas is Just Around the Corner

The true meaning of Christmas usually gets lost during the hustle and bustle of shopping and decorating, but Christmas is still my favorite reason for fall because it is almost here. I love going to Christmas eve church services and caroling along with the church choir. In fact, it is some of my favorite music!

9. Nutcracker Market

A favorite event for Houstonians is the annual Nutcracker Market that pays a special visit to Houston, Texas. Typically, the market lasts about four days and is packed with Christmas-themed décor and items sold by a variety of vendors.

10. The Semester is Almost Over!

Even though fall is the beginning of the semester, we're a lot closer to winter break!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
