In case you didn't already know, "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" should be your favorite TV show. Rebecca Bunch is a miserable lawyer in New York, until she runs into her old boyfriend, Josh Chan, who she never really got over. So, she decides to uproot her life and move to his hometown or West Covina, California, though she'll never admit that Josh was the cause. The show is funny and well done, and to top it all off, it's a musical. Each song is as humorous and quirky as the last, and they all come from different genres. Season two is going to air on the CW in a few months, so I thought this would be the perfect time to share what I think are the top ten songs from the show.
10. "I’m In A Sexy French Depression"
Rebecca tackles the romanticization of depression in this black-and-white solo.
"Je suis garbage!"
9. "I’m So Good At Yoga"
Josh's girlfriend Valencia's first song is a slap in the face to Rebecca, who struggles to manage even a downward dog.
"I do stuff with my body that no human should be able to do, like putting my face behind my knees, turning my hand into a shoe!"
8. "The Sexy Getting Ready Song"
Every girl will relate to this song. Every. Single. One. The title is pretty self-explanatory.
"You know what? I got to go apologize to some b******. I'm forever changed after what I just seen."
7. "I’m The Villain In My Own Story"
Everyone has that moment when they realize they've been, well, a huge jerk. This is Rebecca's, and it comes complete with her reflection turning green and a cage for Valencia.
"We're told love conquers all, but that only applies to the hero."
6. "Oh My God, I Think I Like You"
This delightfully upbeat NSFW song perfectly captures that moment when you realize you've "caught the feels" for your FWB.
"Is there an IUD that can stop the image of you and me?"
5. "Settle For Me"
Josh's friend Greg, aka Broadway superstar Santino Fontana, got his chance to shine with this black-and-white number intended to woo Rebecca into forgetting Josh and settling for Greg.
"Like 2 percent milk, or seitan beef, I almost taste the same!"
4. "Gettin’ Bi"
Rebecca and Paula's boss, Darryl, gets to rock out after struggling with his sexuality and finally deciding to come out at the office. He also demolishes some stereotypes while he's at it!
"It's not a phase, I’m not confused, not indecisive, I don’t have the “gotta choose” blues!"
3. "West Covina"
This is the first number from the show, a Broadway-worthy showstopper that has Rebecca moving from New York to California and exploring all it has to offer.
"Look everyone, stop giving me the shakedown, I am not having a nervous--"
2. "After Everything I’ve Done for You (That You Didn’t Ask For)"
Rebecca's BFF Paula gets her the showstopper she deserves in order to scold Rebecca for lying to her and giving up on Josh.
"I blackmailed Valencia's boss so now I control when she teaches! That's right!
I make all the Yoga class schedules! There's no limit to where my reach is!"
1. "You Stupid Bitch"
This song is absolutely hilarious. Rachel Bloom (who plays Rebecca) deserves an Emmy for being able to sing this with a straight face. It's also the perfect self-pity song.
"Now he knows I'm not some innocent lamb, he sees me for what I am!"
All of the songs from season one are available on iTunes, and you should defintely check them out. Unless you have something against brilliance and humor, then stay away.
